3rd Trimester

Baby movement.

Hey! So, I have read in several places that a decrease in fetal movement is bad. But they don't say how long to track it for? For instance, I felt Laveda a LOT yesterday morning, but not as much last night and this morning (which she is usually very active during those times) and I feel her a little bit throughout the day. I would say that she has two very active days and one slightly inactive. How would you describe your baby's movement's? I am just a little paranoid and if I don't feel her when I think I am supposed to, I tend to panic a little..

Re: Baby movement.

  • I've found that if my baby has a very active day or two, then the next day she's less kicky.

  • I think that's totally normal.  Are you doing kick counts?  Just make sure the baby is still moving/kicking 10 times per hour during its most active times.  Even 10 kicks in 2 hours is normal for less active days.  I would say if you had two less active days in a row, then you could call your doc.  Try not to stress over it too much, but I know its hard!

  • Some books reccomend 10 movements per hour.  Are you doing a kickcount?  If not call Doc and ask about getting a sheet.  My MW had me start one after I had no movement after 2 days (and she yelled at me for waiting so long).  She said less than 10 movements in 2 hours I'm to drink some juice or eat a sugery snack, lay on my left side and try again. If still less than 10 in 2 hrs, then to call.

  • I generally just go with my gut feeling. My son is passed the kicking stage, and is at the stage where you feel more rolling movements because they are losing room in the uterus. I usually feel him moving a lot around lunch time and again at dinner time. i'll feel  a good amount of movements in between those times of course, but they feel more like he's repositioning to get comfortable or stretching for the most part. If you think that there is something abnormal happening, drink some OJ and see if the movement increases within an hour. If you don't start to feel typical movements or kicks, then definitely give your OB or MW a call! If you feel extra worried, there is probably a reason.
  • I went through the same thing just a few days ago, where my baby wasn't moving when she usually does and wasn't as active either, but after a few days she got back to her regular routine. I personally think the change in activity was due to a dramatic schedule change on my part, has your regular daily schedule changed?
