Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I think it's pretty grinchy

not to put up a tree just because your toddler might wreck it.You're a mom now, get used to cleaning messes. But don't deprive them of gifts under the tree x-mas morning because you're lazy.

I think it's grinchy to have someone from the 70s with no shirt on in your siggy but different strokes for different folks right?

  • I actually put the tree up yesterday and much to my surprise, DD was really good about it.  She didn't get all crazy or try to rip it down.  She looked and when she touched it was just lightly touching the tree branches.  I won't leave her in the room alone with it, but I feel like I was worried for nothing.

  • Not grinchy but foolish.  There are ways to prevent a tree from falling on our children.

I venture to say the same people who aren't putting a tree up are the same people who are freaking out about juice, FF carseats, what grandparents give their kids, etc.

There are two different breeds of mothers here.

What if I am not even buying my kid a Christmas gift? And, I am not putting up a tree. Deprived? Holy fcuk, get your priorities straight. I am sure you started this just to start sh!t, but there are worse things I can deprive my child of, than a Christmas tree.

wife, this might be the one, the only one time I can think of that I don't agree with you. I don't think it's grinchy or foolish to not put up a tree if you don't feel safe or just don't feel like it.

Not wanting to put up a tree is perfectly fine.  Making excuses like the tree will knock my kid out is foolish.

As for presents, Olivia's first two Christmas', she got a total of 4 presents from Santa.

Or it could be moms who dont think that having a tree is what Christmas is all about, or that their kids will even give a shiit or remember - what with it having NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS OR CHRIST. Not that I care or anything.

I couldn't give a sh!t if someone does or doesn't put up a tree. I also don't care what their reasons are for it.

Yeah, I care about all these issues, if you don't, good for you, but I wish you would stop disregarding somebody else's parenting choices.

And gosh, have the good sense not to agree with the troll in public.

Yes, because you aren't allowed to have Christmas if you don't have a tree! What would baby Jesus think?

Both my kids have had juice, DS was FF before 2, and I don't care about what my grandparents give to my kids as long as it's not lethal. But yeah, we aren't putting a tree because I don't think it's worth the hassle.

There's a whole lot of generalization going on here.

My plan is to have Eli actually light the menorah himself. Babies + matches = great idea, yeah?

Our poor kids are going to be traumatized by our lack of Christmas trees...1st degree burns are the least of our lonely Jews' troubles.

Safety first! I got a small tree to put up on a higher table. This way there is a place for presents and ornaments, but DD can't reach it.

If they choose to not have a tree I am willing to bet that their kids will not be scared for life... They most likely will not remember!

    We did this exactly!

PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • What if I am not putting up a tree because we just aren't decorating for Christmas? The whole cleaning up after a toddler and/or him pulling the tree on himself are bonus reasons. He also isn't getting Santa gifts this year because he doesn't get it. Maybe next year. Color me lazy because I'm not putting effort into something that my toddler won't see as a holiday tradition yet, but as an avenue for destruction.

Also he doesn't get juice, I get mildly annoyed by things grandparents give him, and he'll be RF as long as he fits in the seat. He gets plenty of sugary treats, I have leftover paranoia from when he was allergic to everything, and my dad was killed in a car crash.

Emsumm, your poor babies will never experience the extremely sacred, holy traditions of trees in your house, strange men coming down your chimney, and parents going overboard on material gifts. Because, you know, that's how they learn about Jesus.

wtf. it is beyond me that any of you care about this even a little bit.

  • All I'm putting out are Christmas themed stuffed animals.  I don't feel like fighting constantly with two monkeys who are capable of climbing on everything and will use decorations to try to concuss their brother.  Call me grinchy, I don't care.

How many memories do you have from when you were 18mo?

  • If it were up to me, I wouldn't put up a tree nor decorate the house with any of the clutter that spends the rest of the year in my attic. H thinks we need to start tradtions for DS. So we'll be putting up a fake tree with old ornaments that we don't mind losing.

I would only buy fresh/live stuff to decorate the outdoors if I lived alone. I do like white lights on trees and shrubs all year long however.

LMAO.  Totally true, I never thought of that.  And here I was protecting them from the perils of juice, all the while exposing them to Jewtigo (which is, of course, the dizziness/vertigo experienced by deprived Jewish kids whose only solace during the Christmas season is to incessantly watch their crappy dreidels go round and round).

Mom2Oli, you are so right.  Perhaps I should hide their dreidels under some shrubbery or something.  I really don't want to break their spirits so young.

This had nothing to do with the Jewish folks.

  • I think it is pretty ridiculous to judge someone for not having a Christmas tree.

As much as I wanted to be "grinchy" this year, I decided to put a tree up.  My DH is deployed and my family is on the other side of the country. I though DD would be a monster and all over it, but she's actually really good around it (so far).  She just stands and stares at it.  Occasionally, she will touch some ornaments but for the most part she knows she is not suppose to touch it.
