If you tried counseling..

Did your health insurance cover it?

I know our insurance covers all mental health outpatient therapies at 100% but is this considered a different type of therapy?

Re: If you tried counseling..

  • As long as we saw someone in our network it was covered, we just had a copay.   I would think as long as your insurance covers mental health you'd be ok.  Just check to see what they cover in terms of social worker, marriage counselor, psych etc...

    Good Luck!

THIS. Because of my insurance I needed to get a referral from my primary care doc first (Stupid EPOs) but as long as I saw a provider in my network, it was covered. I just had to pay a copay.

  • I found a trauma therapist who is also a psychiatrist. He just lists me as a psych patient and does therapy, this works in Canada with OHIP, since psychiatry is covered and therapy is not. I'm not sure if you'd be able to find someone similar in the States, but maybe ask around.
  • My counselor is covered by my insurance. I just have a copay
