Pregnant after a Loss

This is worse than I thought

Freak out (sorry): I knew that PGAL was going to be nerve wracking, but it's worse than I thought ( and I only got my BFP 2 days ago). I am still feeling crampy and am having very frequent bowel movements and I just can't stop worrying. I also cant't stop googling ectopic pregnancy symptoms. I just can't seem to be happy that I'm pregnant.. I am just so sure something will go wrong. I need to chill out, but it's so hard. Any suggestions? Thanks. I know that I am being totally difficult.

  • First, step away from google lol. Cramping is considered normal. Try drinking lots of water and staying hydrated...might make you feel bloated, but it can help. Are you going to have blood work done to see if your hcg levels are rising? I'd recommend that as it can provide some peace of mind. I'm sure everything is fine so try to relax and ease your mind. ((Hugs))

  • Yes those first few weeks are especially awful because normal pregnancy symptoms are similar to miscarriage symptoms. I too had frequent bowel movements and lots of cramping those first few weeks. And then later on the constipation will set in Tongue Tied

Your body is adjusting to the dramatic change in hormones and your uterus is more then doubling in size so it is a tough time. Just take it one day at a time. Hugs.

I don't have any real suggestions other than just trying to take it one moment at a time, but I also had frequent bowel movements in the first week or two after finding out, and it wasn't a sign that anything was wrong.

If you are concerned about an ectopic (an irrational fear (if you have no history) that I completely understand, since I've freaked out about that with both of my pregnancies), maybe you could request an early u/s around 5w to check for placement? (You won't see a heartbeat until 6-7w but just knowing the baby was in my ute was a relief at 6w).

That really makes me feel better. I think I will request an early u/s... good idea. I read that having had pelvic surgery puts you at greater risk for ectopic, so I'm worried. Thanks again. Btw, I remember you from PGAL. Congrats on your pregnancy :)

I feel like it's gonna be a sloooow (hopefully) nine months. Thank you for helping ease my mind :)

  • I agree with all the PP about just taking it one day at a time. :) Also, last pregnancy, I was sosososo consitipated- to the point of sometimes tears. This pregnancy, it hasn't been near as bad, and I haven't even really changed anything (eating habit wise). At first, like you, I was a little worried about it, but tried to enjoy it while it lasted. I am more constipated now than I was earlier on in pregnancy, but it's still not as awful as it was the first time for me. Sometimes your body just does different things.

:) I know the first few days after a BFP go by the very SLOWEST, but they'll be behind you before you know it!!! Many T&Ps! :)

  • You are not being difficult--you are being completely normal for PgAL.  Cramps are a common and normal early pregnancy symptom.  If they get very painful or you have bleeding, then you should be concerned, but otherwise try to just write it off as normal stretching and growing.  And even though you hear a lot more about constipation, frequent bowel movements are also nothing to worry about as long as you aren't getting dehydrated.  I remember when I was new to this board I actually asked "Is it normal that I pooped 4 times today?"

I think one of the best things to do to try to chill out is to ban Dr. Google.  Easier said than done, but I promise it will help.

  • The first few weeks are by far the most difficult. Every twinge, every pain, everything reminds you of your miscarriage. Take everyday as a blessing.

  • Thanks, ladies! You're all so helpful. I will try my best to take it easy and lay off google, but it's so hard for me. I really can't belive how bad I have been freaking out. At this rate, I'm almost considering look into pregnancy safe anxiety meds or something...

  • I am totally feeling the same way! I'm 5 weeks and it feels like FIVE YEARS. I think that's just what it's going to be like to be PGAL though. Hugs, and I think we all completely understand!
