Tip to save time with laundry... if only my DH would follow it!

Make sure when you undress the kids you keep the clothing right side out!!!!  It saves SOOOO much time when you are doing the laundry and have 1000 little pieces of clothes that you don't have to turn right side out.

I can tell who undressed who when I fold laundry... b/c anything that is inside out was my DH... I remind him all the time- and he forgets after like a day.

I don't mind my 4yo's clothes inside out b/c he undresses himself now - so that saves me time :)

also- use one-piece PJ's as long as you can!!!   Matching up PJs that are 2 pieces is another thing that takes me forever!

ok- tip done :)

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • We do that too. It's much quicker to just turn it right and do up zippers/snaps when you put it into the laundry basket than mess with it all later.

  • I agree!  DH used to take his socks off inside out and I got tired of fixing them.  Is started folding them and putting them away however they came out of the wash.  Now he has learned to take them off correctly!  I do the same thing w/ his shirts, I'd hang them up inside out.

Also, another tip.  I have the kids take off their clothes and bring them straight to the laundry room.  I put the socks on top of the dryer in a pile, then when I'm ready to do a wash I put them all in a bag.  When I fold the laundry the (kids) socks are all together and there is no need to go looking for matches.

  • Also?  Load up on the OxiClean.  Costco has a big box for a good price.

    Kids are messy.  Sigh.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

Oh- i don't even consider turing DH's clothes right side out- they get folded any way they come out of the wash- that's his deal... he knows it.  Occasionally when my own clothes are inside out i hang them that way, too - b/c i can easily turn it when i'm putting it on.

I only turn the kids right side out so it's faster when i change them  - since i'm dealing with wrestling a crazy child and have 2 others running around, too :)

Our laundry room is in the basement- so there's no going there for socks :)

  • Does it make me a horrible mother that I fold it however it comes out of the laundry?  I started this when I got married b/c my H stuff is always inside out and it irritated me to tears.

  • We hang dry our clothes and so I turn it rightside in when I hang clothes from the drying (mostly).

With baby clothes I don't know what I'll do.  Is it annoying to have to undo the snaps then redo them just to dress the baby?  It seems easier to leave them unsnapped.

  • My tip: put your baby socks in a zip up lingerie bag to wash them. It keeps them together and makes matching very quick and easy. Also keeps them from being sucked into the hoses and clogging the washer.

For onesies that get hung up with outfits, I don't snap anything.

For PJs, I snap the top and at the crotch.
