s/o Santa v. Parents

Discussion at our house recently:  Do you put the gifts from parents under the tree before Christmas morning, or do you stash them away and put them all out on Christmas Eve with the Santa gifts?

Re: s/o Santa v. Parents

  • Gifts from my parents were always under the tree as soon as my mom wrapped them.  Gifts from Santa only showed up on Christmas morning (middle of the night Christmas Eve).

  • Everything is stashed away.  No presents are under the tree until the kids go to bed on Christmas Eve.

I can't imagine putting out presents before the day.  Isn't that a form of torture to young children?  :)

  • Parent presents get put out as soon as I can get them wrapped.  I hate having presents squirreled away where DH or Luke might stumble across them, so I want them wrapped and out ASAP.

Depends on the kid.  I went to HS with a girl who opened all her gifts before her parents got home, and then rewrapped them.  No torture there Devil

Did you go to school with me?

I did that once and exactly once.  I love surprises so when Christmas day rolled around that year, I was sorely disappointed b/c I already knew everything I was getting.  I never did that again.

  • At my house, gifts from parents were out as soon as they were wrapped. At dh's house, there were no gifts under the tree until Christmas morning.

lol - my mom would put a couple presents out but kept most hidden away.  And she always told us the story of the Christmas when she secretly opened all her presents and re-wrapped them.  And she'd go on about how much Christmas sucked that year because she ruined the surprise for herself.  So every time I'd go to sneak open a present...that story would haunt me and I couldn't do it!

  • Parent gifts were always put under the tree all month long. Presents from Santa were always left out in the open and usually unwrapped since they were the bigger toys.

  • We put the gifts from us under the tree as soon as I get them wrapped.  Santa's gifts and stocking Christmas eve after kiddos are in bed
  • Gifts from parents under the tree whenever they are put there.  The gifts from Santa are put under the tree on Christmas Eve.

  • Gifts that came in the mail from relatives got put under the tree as soon as the box was opened.  Otherwise, all gifts from parents and Santa were put down after we went to bed on Christmas Eve.

  • gifts from parents slowly accumulated over the month of December.  Santa's gifts showed up in front of the tree (unwrapped) on christmas morning.  Typically, Santa's gifts were larger, and would have been more difficult to wrap.

DH's Santa wrapped all their gifts.  They opened 'regular' gifts in the evening of christmas eve, and then santa had extra wrapped gifts under the tree on christmas morning.

  • Presents were under the tree as soon as they were wrapped, but see the previous post - we didn't do Santa. That said, my mother rarely go around to wrapping them much before Christmas.
  • Growing up, all our gifts were wrapped, and "From Santa", thus put under the tree on Christmas Eve.

So far with us, all DS's gifts have been from Santa, so they go under the tree on Christmas Eve.  But like HSArtteach, any gifts received in the mail from relatives/friends go under the tree as they arrive, to be opened on Christmas day.

I think this year we will do a gift from us, because (see post above) we're giving him a Leapster Explorer, which I want him to have when the baby is born - it will be his "keep occupied" toy for when I'm having to feed the baby or can't directly play/interact with him.  So I think the plan is to give it to him when the baby is born, like maybe in the hospital (assuming baby is born before Christmas...  here's hoping!).

  • Everything other than Santa gifts goes under the tree as it gets wrapped.  Santa stuff comes out when the kids go to sleep Christmas Eve.

We open family gifts Christmas Eve (us to kids, us to each other, etc.) then the kids' Santa gifts and stockings on Christmas morning.

  • One or two presents for each of us went under the tree when my mom wrapped them.  Otherwise, everything else appeared Christmas morning.  There usually wasn't really that much, so my parents wanted it to "feel" like a bunch of stuff showed up.  One or two big things from Santa, plus stockings and the rest from them.
