Babies on the Brain

Got an eye exam today - ugh

I've worn glasses for a few years while I'm on the computer and when I drive at night but that's it.  Today at my exam I was told that I really need to wear them full time.  I CAN'T wear contacts.  I can't even put in eye drops and can't watch DH put in/take out his contacts.  Eyeballs are the only body parts that creep me out.

So on top of that, admittedly minor, vent I was also told that my eye pressure is at the very highest range they like to see and that I run a serious risk of developing glaucoma (which my grandmother also had).  He said my optic nerve in both eyes is perfect right now but that I need to have it checked regularly to make sure the pressure isn't deteriorating the nerve.  Yay :-(

  • I can't remember not wearing glasses.  I have had them since 1st grade.  I can put my contacts in without a mirror. DH on the other hand almost barfs touching his eye. So you are not alone.  He wears glasses all the time starting this past summer.

  • I'm right there with ya. I hate the eye doctor. I can't wear contacts and I know I should wear my glasses all the time but they bother me too. I tried to man up and do contacts but chickened out.

  • Dude that sucks....about the glucoma.  I have always been creeped out by my eyes.  Especially since I had to have stiches on the after my eye surgery.  BUT I was able to wear contacts for a short period of time.  It took me FOREVER to learn how to put them in and ever longer to learn how to take them out, but eventually I was able to wear them.  The only reason I stopped wearing them was because they rubbed on my scars and were uncomfortable.

I'm wondering if you tried a fitting if you'd be able to bring yourself to try them.  I mean you've over come worse fears....just keep thinking about learning to swim, I think you can do it!

  • That sucks about the glaucoma.

Can you get Lasik now?  That would be better than glasses.

This is basically us too.  I've had glasses since third grade and can almost put my contacts in in the dark. And DH used to wear contacts but it would take him 15 minutes to get them in because it freaked him out, then he'd leave them in for months and they'd get stuck to his eyeball. So gross. So now he does glasses full time too.

  • I just got full exams and found out I now have a  risk of glaucoma.   My optic nerve is "suspicious".   I have to go in yearly now.   But I do still have 20/20.  WooT
