I know DS2 looks a LOT like DH and it doesn't bother me, but I'm tired of MIL saying it for everything!
DS2 has dimples, which I have, DH does not have dimples. MIL insists that DS2 gets his dimples from DH.
I carried him, I want some credit for him.
She does the same thing with DD and DS1. There is NO denying DD looks 95% like her Daddy, but there are certain features that are no doubt mine. DS1 is WAY more me than DH, but she can't seem to accept that either. It's like all she will give me credit for it being their carrier.
Sorry, vent over.
Re: Tired of hearing he looks like DH!
HA! I could've easily written your post. At this point it's hard to tell, but I'd say our LO is about 50/50, and my MIL keeps saying the same thing.
I think we've pretty well established that MILs are crazy!
Aww, honey, I'm sorry she's so emphatic about who the baby resembles. I'm sure when she notices what she perceived to be a flaw that you get credit for that.
My MIL is the same way... Only, my kids all look like me, but she refuses to acknowledge it. She evengot into a pissing match with my best friend at my 3 year old's 1st birthday party because my friend kept saying, "Jeez, T is SUCH a Shannon clone.". But, she's all to quick with the cutting comments about how short T-rex is and saying that her height must be my fault. I'm 5'7, so not exactly tiny... but she and all the women in her family are 5'10 and over.
She was just here Monday to meet Ronan for the first time and started up all over again with the, "Oh, look at his _____, he gets that from his daddy.". Sorry lady, my son has black hair (like mine), my nose, my chin and my coloring,,, DH is a red head and pale. I can see my DH in him a bit, but to disregard me and my genes so completely is just annoying after a while.
Hahahaha!! I would totally call her out too.
I didn't call her out directly, but mentioned it to DH, my Mom and a few others. MIL claims that DH HAD dimples. I think she doesn't realize that you either have dimples or your don't - they don't come and go.
my read shelf:
Much to my FIL's dismay, Adelle looks just like me. Absolutely and completely, with the exception of the hair color. I was born a platinum blonde, and Addy has copper hair as of right now. Other than that, she's a complete clone of me.
FIL can't stand that fact. Then again, he's still grumpy that the baby isn't named after him.
Only once has someone said a baby looks like me....and it was my nephew. My DD's are clones of their daddy. It doesn't help that both girls were born with dark brown eyes and dark brown hair--and I'm as blond and green-eyed as can be. DD1's dark hair fell out and now she's blond, and I'm secretly hoping the same thing happens with DD2! It helps a little to feel like they look like me.
This is key!! I used to get people telling me I was a spitting image of my mom, and then others who knew my dad would say I look just like him. I'm sure it's annoying to hear, but I think people see what they want to see in babies. I'm guessing you think your DH is a good looking guy, since you married him, so I guess that's one positive way to look at it - right??
I knew when I got pg, that if it were a boy, it would look nothing like me. My DH, his dad and his brother look sooo similar. They just have dominant genes or something! Haha
