Is it just me or does taking colace make your poo smell atrocious and give you cramps? Not a lot of cramps, but when I actually do go, it seems like its never ending cramping, like I cant get off the toilet.
Not too bad. One night I was in the bathroom for awhile and in some pain... with cramps.. That was really bad but it could also of been something I ate that night.
I notice I'm much more gassy when I take it and am finally able to go. I just attribute it to things finally moving around in there! Maybe it is just gas related cramps?

I had the cramps when I first started taking it, but it doesn't seem so bad anymore. Although, I have noticed that I am a lot more gassy since I started it. But...it is a LIFE SAVER!!! So, I'll take the bad with the good.

Colace? Is this something that really works, and can I get it over the counter? I'm in so much pain right now from not being able to go!!! I've never dealth with constipation before getting pregnant and I'm not a happy camper! I seriously considered doing an enima last night but thought I probably shouldn't. I can't drink juice to help because of GD, I drink at least one cup of coffee a day, I get plenty of fluids, I've tried more "fiber" in my foods...nothing seems to be keeping me regular. HELP! And if this is an over the counter something...is it going to give me diarreah or just make me go?

Yes you can get it over the counter at any grocery store probably - it's by the laxatives or the gas remedies, etc. It's a stool softener so while it isn't a laxative, the directions say I think it produces a bowel movement within 4 or 6 hours to up to 24 or something. It shouldn't give you diarrhea but it isn't impossible I guess. But since it isn't a laxative like a stimulant kind you should be okay. I take 2 every few days but my friend is a pharmacist and she said I can take 2 every day if necessary. It definitely has helped me!

How often do you take it? If you're taking it 2x/day, try cutting it back to once a day. Or if you're taking it daily, then try taking it every other day.
It works strangely for me. Sometimes I don't think it does a darn thing for my constipation, but other times it causes the symptoms you described. There seems to be no balance for me but I do have IBS.

Thanks, will have to give this a try...but not today, will be hitting the road in a few hours and wouldn't want to have issues on our drive, lol! Will pick some up to start tomorrow.

You all should try Kefir along with a daily probiotic vitamin. Kefir is a probiotic yogurt smoothy. It is in the yogurt section at the grocery store. I had tried everything else, (and I mean everything) and nothing worked. Now, every day, I drink 6-8oz of Kefir and I take a probiotic pill that my dr recommended and I am finally regular again.
