Breast Pump-Recommendations

I was one of the few people who didn't register or purchase a breast pump while preggo.  Can you recommend your pump?  I'm currently using a hospital grade for the month, but will be purchasing my own after that.  I work full-time and will be going back by early January.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Breast Pump-Recommendations

  • I really like my Medela Swing. It works great for my occasional use (about once daily right now) but I am a stay at home mom. If I were going back to work I would have purchased the Medela Pump in Style.

  • Don't bother with the First Years one (I forget the name of it but I think they only make one model). I bought it because it was all I could afford. You get what you pay for.

My MIL bought this one for us, it called the Mi Pump. We weren't super picky and didn't want her to spend $300 on a pump I wouldn't be using all the time. Right now I pump twice a day. It definitely gets the job done, though. I like it.

  • I have the Medela Pump in Style and I love it. I pump about 6-8 times a day and it's worked perfectly for the past few weeks. Also, my insurance covered it after my LC wrote a letter saying LO had trouble latching onto the left breast (causing nipple soreness/cracks on the right breast since that's the only one he would feed off of). Maybe give your insurance company a call if you haven't already and see if they cover it. It's nice to save the $300 if possible.

  • I second the suggestion for the Medela Pump In Style Advanced.

I used it with my DD and abused the heck out of it - it got us to one year with me working FT and not a drop of formula. I wanted a new pump for Carter and I spent a lot of time wavering between the Freestyle and the PISA (cost wasn't an issue). In the end, I bought a PISA because I was worried about suction power with the freestyle (after reading tons of reviews and talking to moms who had used both). But, if you are looking for optioins, the Freestyle would be another one to look at.

  • I have the hygeia enjoye and it seems to work well and is approved by the FDA as a resalable  multi user pump and completely closed system.  It was around the same price as the pisa by medela and can use medela's bottles, flanges, and tubing

  • My LC suggests either a medela or ameda double electric.  I have an ameda and am happy with it.
