Sleeping questions

I have posted a few times about my girls that refuse to sleep.  Well they are now 3 months old (born at 34.5) and we still haven't made any progess.  I have now clue what is going on.  Their sleeping patterns have changed but they still wake up all the time. I don't think they have their days and night swtiched because they are up alot in the day.  Here is what is going on & PLEASE GIVE ANY ADVICE!!!

1.) They wake up a lot at night (still every 1-1.5 hours).  They best they have done is 2.5 hours. About 2 weeks ago they stopped eating as much at night (only 1- 2oz per feeding) but they still wake up just as often. during the day they eat about 3 oz a feeding and don't sleep much.   Any ideas?

2.) I have been keeping them on the same schedule- by when one wakes up to eat, I get the other up to eat.  But it seems like DD#1 sleeps better early night, while DD#2 cries and wants to be held.... then a few hours later they switch and DD#2 sleeps great while DD#1 has her fussy time.  This makes it so I am up most of the night with one or the other. Advice on getting them to sleep at the same time so I can sleep?

3.) Every once and awhile one of them will be sleeping soundly then just wake up screaming (a painful cry) like they were hurt or having a nightmare.   Did anyone have this happen with their infants?

4.) When does it get better? When can I expect them to sleep 3 hours at the same time?

 ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME!

TIA from Tired Mom

Re: Sleeping questions

  • OMG i don't envy this stage..(sorry)...I hear everything you are saying. Sometimes my DS still wakes every hr at night. I'm not sure if it's teething or what it is. It's rare he'll STTN without waking at least once...still!

I honestly don't think they are eating enough. I don't know how much they weigh or anything but I tried to make sure my babies had a full tummy. I also didn't breastfeed at this stage. If you are i'd suggest supplementing with formula if you aren't against it.

Possibly gas??? Sounds like if they are waking up screaming in pain could be gas. I'd give them mylicon right before bed.

Where do they sleep? Mine always slept better in their bouncies. I even put the bouncies in their cribs!! They were still in the same room at that point as well.

I hope some if this helps. Some people suggest getting the book healthy sleep habits.  I read it and got some ideas from it.

GL!!! And i hope you get some sleep soon!

  • Thank you! I do BF but I supplement with Formula and they usually get formula before bed.  They each weigh about 10 pounds (up from 3 & 4 lbs).  They sleep in their own cribs, that is when they sleep :-) and their cribs are in our bedroom. They definitely sleep better in their bouncy seats but I didn't know if they were getting to old for it so I have been trying to keep them in their cribs.  If you see this- when did you switch from their bouncy seats to cribs and was it hard for them to switch?

  • crap! I wish i had some better advice for you! I switched them around 6 mos. I say if they sleep better in them let them. No it wasn't hard at all...i put them in the cribs for naps only...bouncy at night. Then one night i decided that was it. I put them in their cribs (separate room from ours but together) and they both slept pretty good. For feedings i did an 11pm dreamfeed. I would change them while they were pretty much still asleep and lay them back in the bouncy and prop the bottles up. They would fall back to sleep and i'd take the bottle away when they were done. They would sleep for longer periods of time when i did that. Have you tried the dreamfeed yet?? Worked wonders for us. I stopped doing it when they were around 6 mos though since i had pretty big babies and they have proved a few times that they could sleep for 6-7hrs at that point. Plus when they went to cribs the dreamfeed didn't work so well.

At about 8 or 9 mos i put them in their own rooms and DD now STTN...DS is still up but he is the one that made the change...he doesn't like to be alone but it had to be done. I had to work and he was keeping her up as well.

GL!!!! I hope something works for you soon!
