High-Risk Pregnancy

Pregnancy with Sjogren's or Lupus?

Hi, I've been recently diagnosed and we just started TTC. Any tips, advice, etc?

I'm pretty freaked out and pessimistic at this point...

Re: Pregnancy with Sjogren's or Lupus?

  • I'm so sorry you've gotten this news.  I don't have either of those, but I do have a ttc story with two happy endings to share with you.  One of my closest friends has had Sjogren's since she was little and still managed to conceive two perfectly healthy girls with no pregnancy losses along the way and no significant health challenges on her end either.  I know her pregnancies were closely monitored by a perinatologist and she delivered each of her girls at 38 weeks, but they're both perfectly happy and healthy.  Here's a link to an article she wrote for Fearless Formula Feeder that describes more of what the experience has been like for her:

  • I am 31 weeks and have lupus.  Everything has been pretty stable.  You can take plaquenil while pregnant.

  • Hello!

I am on my 5th pregnancy, knowing each time but the first that I had LUPUS.  We recently added Fibro to my list as well as a heart murmur, GERD, migraines, Raynauld's.  I have had very close supervision by my high risk ob as well as maternal fetal medicine closly monitoring the baby.  I have monthly ultrasounds and we treat issues as they come, I don't take my meds pregnant or nursing but we do treat with prednisone as needed and pain meds as needed.  I have had issue with preterm labor, dehydration, increased migraines throughout the pregnancies but I have 4 healthy happy children and am due 4/14/12.  Feel free to message me with any questions or issues!

  • Hi I am almost 13 weeks pregnant with my third and have Sjogrens. I wasn't diagnosed with it till after my second was born and now know why my first two pregnancies were so difficult. I have gotten second opinions about getting pregnant this third time and glad I did because my last doctor only gave me horror stories and bad news but my new doctor has given me nothing but positive news and hope. I am currently on Plaquinil which is safe during pregnancy and I can't believe how much better I feel this time around. I am seeing a high risk doctor but both my OB/GYN and Sjogrens doctor have no concerns for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

All I have been worned about by both doctors is if your case is progressed far enough to effect your organs then it can become a serious and more harmful pregnancy. Trust in your doctors and don't do what I did by reading up on the internet, all it will do is make you worry.

    Hope that helps

  • THANK YOU! Reading your posts have made me feel a lot better. I will be seeing my rhumetologist next week and will talk more about it with him. I'm also going to stop reading things online- no good comes out of it.

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions, but I so appreciate it!
