Pregnant after a Loss

Dizzy/headache ?

Today I was shopping at Target (there for about 30 minutes or so), and toward the middle of my trip I started to feel a bit nauseous, but it was bearable. I hadn't eaten in a few hours (which is unlike me, I am always snacking, but we were busy today). When I was getting the last thing I needed, I started feeling really funny & light-headed, like I was about to faint or black out. Luckily I was near the front, I rushed to a check-out line, got a bottle of water, sat down, and drank it. I felt better after that, but since have had an awful headache.

I came home, ate right away (rather a lot ... 3 tacos), drank more water, tried taking a nap in bed (slept for about an hour), ate some cookies for sugar, and it just hasn't felt any better.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried or is this headache thing somewhat normal? Is there something (besides Tylenol) that could help? This is the first time it's happened to me during pregnancy.

If I wake up with a headache, I'm going to call my dr., but I was just curious. Thanks!

Re: Dizzy/headache ?

  • Pretty much the same thing happened to me today (at Target, even!).  I'm attributing it to slight dehydration.  I'm usually pretty good about water intake but since we were running around today I didn't drink much.  I'm trying to chug a bunch of water and I'm going to drink a gateraide once it's cool enough (stuck it in the fridge when we got home).  Do you think maybe you're a little dehydrated?

Ah!! Sorry it happened to you, too! (How ironic, hehe). And good point; I only had apple juice this morning (and a small glass at that) with breakfast and not much else. I am drinking lots liquids right now, so maybe it'll end up helping soon.

    Thanks :)

  • I'm sorry you're feeling so horrible. Get some reassurance from your doctor if you need it.

I had a lot of headaches for a long, long time. Knock on wood, I haven't had very many in the last couple of months. I took Tylenol when the headaches became severe. Others will also recommend having a little caffeine, sleep, cold compresses, etc.

My dizzy/fainting spells haven't been connected to my headaches, but I have had many of them, beginning around 15 weeks, continuing until present day. My doctor isn't concerned, though it makes me feel like hell. He says it's not impacting the baby. I've been advised to eat frequent, small meals, never skip a meal even if I'm busy, not to sit or stand in the same place for long periods, not to lift heavy things or take a lot of stairs, etc. etc. Sometimes it occurs if I'm just sitting here doing nothing. It often occurs if I'm lying on my back, even in a semi-seated position (it even happened during a facial!)

My fainting spells are mild to problematic, though I've never quite gone fully out (but very close several times) and I am usually quite exhausted afterward, and usually need to sleep (which I cannot always do).

When it happens, if you can, lie on your left side and rest. Have some water or something to get your blood sugar up (juice, etc.).

Best of luck. Talk to your doctor.

It's possible that you got hypoglycemic because you hadn't eaten. That happens to me all the time, pregnant or not and when it happens it takes FOREVER for me to feel back to normal. I could eat tons of food and it just takes it out of me, I feel off the rest of the day especially when it's happened while pregnant. Drink more water, take some tylenol and rest up. Don't forget to eat!!!

This sounds very possible, too!!! Probably even a slight combination of me not eating or drinking a lot today... which as I said, is pretty abnormal for me.

Thanks for your input; I will def. be taking it easy for the rest of the day. :) ... and I've already had another taco. Hah!
