Scary L&D visit yesterday...

I was having pretty intense lower back and abdominal cramping mixed with what I thought was BH on and off all week - then yesterday morning I woke up and felt pretty crappy. Went to L&D, and after a semi-traumatic catheter (WTF?!)/fibronectin swab/vaginal exam, they put me on the monitors. Baby seemed perfect, but I was contracting too much, and dilated to 1.5cm. Doc on call came in and said the contractions and dilation were too much for 32 weeks, so they put me on fluids and terbutaline. All the tests came back negative, so they really have no idea why I was in pre/pre-term labor. 4hrs later, contractions calmed down and they sent me home on bed rest for a couple days.

Needless to say all that FREAKED ME OUT. I have had a stinking PERFECT pregnancy without a hint of complications...and now I am worried Baby will be making a way too early arrival :( I'm still having contractions, but not as intense as before. Gotta call my regular OB tomorrow, hopefully he can give me a better picture of what is going on.

Bleh. I am praying that Baby stays put at least another 5 weeks!

  • It is possible your regular OB will want you on bed rest for more than a few days since I went through this at 30 weeks and have been on bed rest for nearly 5 weeks. I hope things continue to improve so you do not get stuck in bed for the remainder of your pregnancy!

  • That is scary!  I'm so glad they got everything slowed down and I hope you don't have any more scares until you're a good 37 weeks.

  • Ohhh boy...I'm sorry you had to go through that! Bed rest right now would be craptastic timing. I am due to graduate from college on Dec 10th!!!! EEEPPP!!
  • That is scary!!  Especially being dilated already.  But I see that a lot of moms on here dilate early and stay that ways for weeks at a time

I got put on bedrest today until I reach 35 weeks, which is only 9 days.  I was surprised because I haven't dilated at all, but I am having very frequent contractions.  My job is really active, so I think they are just being cautious, but I was still surprised.  They put me on Procardia too.

I hope the next month is smooth sailing for you!

  • oh that sucks! I am sorry you had to deal with it. And my experience with Terbutaline was horrible. Did you get the shakes? If your Dr puts you on bed rest and wants to give you meds to prevent contractions... you can ask for something else. Terb causes the jitter shakes and can mess with your blood sugar reading if your GD.
