Do I HAVE to wait 3 months?

Hi girls.. I am over in Austria where I had my baby..  I went in for my 6 week appointment hoping to get the ok to work out.  I am a very active person and play basketball and do alot of running..  The doctor told me that I should wait until 3 months to start those excercises..  During my delivery I had a 3rd degree tear and then surgery on my rectum right after giving birth.  Everything feels really ood and I haven't had any bleeding in two weeks... I was just curious if this is what your doctors told you in the states because I was really hoping to start but then was told have have to wait another 6 weeks... I just don't think i can... what do you think?

  • Dude... start slow. I also had a third degree tear and felt great at 4 weeks, so I started running and hitting the gym. Then all of a sudden I was in a ton of pain again- like I did the first few days after having him. I couldn't stand for very long without feeling tons of pressure and everything was just very sore. I had to take it easy for another couple of weeks and I'm just now getting back into working out. I still haven't run yet again, just because I'm trying to ease into it.

Just remember that your body just went through hell- I mean, just THINK of what happened to your poor, poor vagina. Listen to your body and take it slow!

  • Absolutely. Follow your doctor's advice. Normally, it's six weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for C-Section, but if a physician gives that kind of advice, it's for a reason.

This.  I was cleared before 6 weeks, but I had friends that weren't cleared for anything at their 6 week appointment.  If your doctor is recommending wait, I'd definitely wait.

  • I think Austrians are a little overly cautious.  My SIL had a c-section there and they kept her in the hospital for a whole week (I think they also did ultrasounds at every appointment).  Did you exercise during your pregnancy?  I had a 2nd degree tear with DD2 and resumed my normal workout at 6 weeks pp, but I think I would have been fine starting at 4 weeks.  I was itching to workout, but stuck with walking to be on the safe side.  Anyway, like a pp mentioned, start off slow and LISTEN to your body.

  • 4th degree tear and I was cleared at 6 weeks.

I would play it safe and rest.

  • I broke myself in gently with this because it's designed for mums and doesn't follow the usual 'crunches' format. Worked for me! ;-) x https://www.mamamio.com/us/body/bootcamp-for-tummies-skincare-and-exercise-system.html/
