Re: tell me about your 33 - 34 weekers..or 3 lbers

  • My DS was delivered at 34w4d due to severe IUGR and weighed 3lbs 5oz and was 15 3/4 inches. He did not need oxygen assistance and I was given 2 rounds of steroids the week prior to the delivery. He stayed in the hospital for 26 days as a feeder/grower and came home right below 5 lbs. As of a week ago Friday he was 10lbs 7oz, he is still around the 3rd percentile. Good luck...I hope you can keep your LO in as long as possible! What is the reason for your possible early delivery?

  • I delivered DS at 32w5d.  He was bigger (4lbs), so I can't speak to the size.  But, I had gotten the 2 rounds of steroids and he never needed breathing assistance.  They puffed his lungs right after delivery, but that was it.  I don't know if it was the steroids or not, but I think they helped.

Best of luck to you and hopefully LO can stay cooking a little longer.  T&Ps coming your way!

  • I delivered at 33+5. My dd was 3lbs, 15 oz. I received one round of steroids while they tried to stop labor but didn't make it to the second shot. My dd came out screaming and never required any breathing assistance. We had a 17 day nicu stay where she had to learn to eat and grow.

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

  • My little guy was born at 36 weeks but was only 3 lbs, 6 oz due to severe IUGR.  He never required oxygen and has been a really good eater.  He's possibly going home from the NICU tomorrow assuming he passes his carseat test today.  He's just barely past his birth weight now.  He's "small but mighty".

  • My guys were born at 33w 4d at 4lb 8oz and 4lb 9oz.  I was admitted on a Wednesday, had my first steroid shot that day, the next one Thursday, and delivered them Friday night because of Pre-E complications.  They both were on ventilators for a VERY short period of time, maybe 12 hours and then were fine to breathe on their own.

They both came home from the NICU about 10 days ago and are on monitors because of bradycardia episodes.  Both are doing REALLY well though!

  • You  can see her below!

She was born at 34 weeks via c/s... 3 lbs 14 oz. She stayed in the NCIU for 16 days with a feeding tube. She had an iv for the first few days due to mag.

I am convinced the steriod shot helped her! I had it a week before she was born.

  • happy to see so many positive responses and you all have beautiful babies..getting sent home today hoping to stay there at least four more weeks so i can make it full term and get baby to grow some more..

  • My non preemie was born at 38 weeks but had severe IUGR and was 3lbs 15oz. He had no problems due to his weight. He did spend 5 days in the NICU to gain back HS birth weight before we were released. Now he is a happy healthy 52lb 3 year old.

I also had a 36 weaker who was 4lbs 10oz. He spent 4 days in the NICU to gain back weight and get his tan on. No problems regarding his weight either. He is 15 months old and 24lbs. Of course my babies were born not 33-34 seekers either though.

  • I delivered my DD at 33w 4 day and she was 4lbs 10.5 oz at birth. She spent 12 days in the NICU mostly as a feeder/grower, she was only on the CPAP for 2 days, she also had some issues with jaundice and was under the bili lights. I received on steroid shot before she was born. I definitely think it helped her. I would definitely ask about receiving it, ASAP. Good luck and please keep us posted.

  • I delivered at 29 weeks but son was 3 lb 2 oz and 16.5 inches.  Yes, I had steroid shots at 24 weeks when I went first went into labor they were able to stop, and then again the night I came in at 29 weeks.  He was breathing on own when born and was on CPAP for first 24 hours as precaution.  When he was around 5 weeks, his lungs collapsed and we had to go on oxygen for the next 4 weeks.  We had a 74 day NICU stay.  Because he was born so early he could not feed on own or regulate temp for several week.s

  • My son was born at 34w 5d and was big for his age (6lbs 1oz!), and we were extremely lucky that he had no issues whatsoever.  We aren't sure why he came early.  No NICU, no steroids, no blood sugar problems, no body temp regulation problems.  Hoping for the best for you!
