Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

stroller question for moms of 2+

Did any of your LOs hate being in the stroller alone but like it when they moved to the double.  We have a wonderful jogging stroller and I've still been able to get DD to go for runs, but when I try to go for a walk around the neighborhood she flips out and no toys or food distract her anymore.  I really want a double so I can get in alot of walking over the summer, but I don't want to spend the money if she won't stay in it.  However, she really loves babies, she has a new cousin she's really into hovering over, so I really think she may enjoy being in the stroller with someone next to her to play with.  Has this worked for anyone or is it just wishful thinking?

Re: stroller question for moms of 2+

  • I am really interested to see the reponses to this. I had pretty much decided against a double because DD almost always prefers to walk. However I never thought about wanting to ride with #2.

  • How old will your DD be when #2 is born?  DS is 2.5 years older than DD and we've used a double stroller maybe 3 times since she was born.  If we go on walks, he rides his tricycle or balance bike.

  • We got a used sit-n-stand from a friend and it was perfect for us this summer (DD turned 2.5 in late July). She wouldn't want to sit in a regular double anymore and I am glad we didn't get one.

  • DD will be 2 years 2 months when LO comes.  We have the citi mini too so I may get the board for the back she could stand on, but I'd really like to go on longer walks to parks and go for runs (when LO #2 is older) and I need a good jogger for that.

  • We have the city select.  Best money i spent.  I still use it a lot.  DS1 wants to do what ever DS2 does.  That includes sitting in the stroller.

I know it isn't made for running at all, but I thought you would get a kick out of the fact that i got crushed by a guy pushing a double side by side city mini in a 10k last weekend. He was really moving!

  • DD1 still loves riding in the stroller and was only 19 months when DD2 was born, so we got a double. Ours is an in-line, not side by side, but DD1 loves knowing the baby is behind her. She turns around or reaches back often to check on her, and I think once DD2 can sit up in the seat instead of being in the car seat they're both going to love it. They already chat with each other, it's the sweetest thing I have ever seen :)

So I would say, yes, it might help if your LO had someone else in the stroller with her. Do you have friends with kids you might be able to test the theory with?

  • MIL bought us a crappy tandum double.  I never used it and sold it.  DD1 hated being in the stroller.
  • If I didn't have to have a double stroller I would never buy a double stroller. They're a pain in the a$$ -- tandem or sbs.

Thank you for this.  As I said in the other post, DH is having a hard time swallowing the fact that our budget for a second stroller went from $180 to $750 (with the extras we want).  Ours will be about as far apart as your two and he was worried we would get a year out of it tops.  DS is not in any shape to start walking, he needs his boundaries in the stroller, otherwise he would be all over the place eating dirt and mulch.

Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.
