i just found out yesterday that i am pregnant with an IUD and i am scared. has anyone heard of anybody else going through this? was the baby okay?

My dad's girlfriend got pregnant because hers shifted and my brother was just fine. I'm not sure what sorts of steps they went through to get the IUD out, etc (I was only about 8 at the time), but I do know that they were both OK!

First of all congratulations. The best thing you can do is call your doctor. Most likely he will remove the IUD right away. He will go over any increased risks and complications. Unfortunately all birth control has the potential to fail! You aren't alone.

Whether or not the IUD is removed will depend on where it is in relation to the baby. You'll get an u/s and the dr will go from there. GL I hope everything turns out OK!

A friend of mine ended up pregnant with twins with hers in. They did not remove it and the twins are both happy healthy wild 3 yr olds now

I don't want to scare you, but my best friend was just found out she was pregnant (around 12 weeks) with Mirena in. The day she went in to have it removed, she lost the baby. They couldn't tell her for sure if it was due the mirena or just a miscarriage due to abnormalities etc.

I know 2 people irl. Neither had any issue

I really don't think those are very good at preventing pregnancy. I've heard of a bunch of people here who have also gotten pg with them.

They are only as good as the doctor that puts them in. If its inserted correctly, the chances of getting pregnant are very very rare. I loved my Mirena, I had no complications, never got my period, had lots of baby free sex, had it removed and got pregnant 2 weeks later.

My friend got pregnant twice with an iud (you'd think the second time she would have changed birth control methods!) Anyways, the first time ended in miscarriage, and the second time the IUD was in for the entire pregnancy (they tried to get it out but couldn't). The baby was born healthy!

I have had the IUD paraguard since I was 19 now I am almost 24. I found this method to incredibly effective when I was with an ex for 3 and a half years, I just got engaged on Christmas.... I continued to have what I thought was a normal period Nov,Dec, and Jan but had bad bouts of Morning sickness start 2 weeks ago, have had insanely sore breasts and very tired, Did 2 home pregnancy tests, 1 said negative one said positive. Had my first Dr's appointment today, I am at 10 weeks, which means we concieved during thanksgiving week. the dr did remove the IUD, so far so good.... Totally unplanned pregnancy, and im still in shock my fiance plans on enlisiting and as of right now lives out of state till March so this is tough for us... We wanted to wait till after we get married for a couple years to have a baby... guess his swimmers had other plans.... The dr did tell me I am at a little higher risk of miscarriage due to having it removed but baby did seem healthy for now...
