2nd Trimester

are these braxton hicks?

Hey ladies,

I am pregnant with my second child. Lately I have been having that tightening in my stomach...I suspected braxton hicks, but when I read how they are described, it always says there is a tightening on the top of the belly. My tightening is on the bottom of my belly. What do you guys think? I also thought is was a little early to be having these contractions...

TIA!

Re: are these braxton hicks?

  • Could be. I didn't realize what a braxton hicks was until my final trimester when they were a little stronger.

  • is your baby maybe balled up down there? im superr tight down low because she is all balled up down there! lol when he rolls i can feel it and it becomes less tight.
  • I've been having them as well already and they up top for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could happen lower too.  Do they hurt?  They shouldn't hurt.

  • They are contractions.  If you have more than 4-5/hour, you should drink a big glass of water then call your doctor.

  • My OB said that you can have BH even very early on, and probably are unaware of them. I think the rule of thumb is that they are normal and ok- I would maybe take it easy and drink more water- but if they become regular and increase in pain/intensity, call your doctor to be sure!

I get this when LO balls up down at the bottom too. I was told that if it's just in an isolated spot, it's most likely baby. And, if it's your whole uterus then its a contraction.

  • Is there a certain time you experience the contractions? Sometimes I get contractions with yoga, and other exercise.  My OB said not to worry, they're normal.  But if its happening often, maybe call your doctor or the advice nurse.
  • I don't seem to get them at certain times...I guess it could be the baby, never really thought about that. They are definitely not painful, and just a couple a day or so that I notice...

Thanks guys!!! I appreciate your comments...I can rest easy for a little bit...
