Success after IF

? about restrictions after IVF (esp. those w/ toddlers at home)

I remember after my other IVF cycles I was instructed not to lift more than 10 lbs until we heard a heart beat.   I'm definitely going to try and take it easy, but realistically I don't think I can hold off picking up my 25lb LOs for 3 weeks.  Just wondering what you guys did or didn't do.   (I started my stim drugs today :)

Re: ? about restrictions after IVF (esp. those w/ toddlers at home)

  • My DS1 was 2 when I did my last IVF and I didn't do anything as far as restrictions go!  I took it easy the day after the ET which for me just meant that I didn't take DS1 outside to run around!  I still was lifting him and playing with him from the day after ET on (and he was at least 30 lbs).  I didn't exercise or do anything "strenuous" but I didn't do bedrest or restrict activing much more than that either.  And it worked out fine for me .. DS2 is 2 weeks old!

    Good luck!

  • DD was 10 months old when we did IVF again, and about 20ish lbs?  To begin with, though, my RE doesn't recommend much by way of restrictions.   Just "take it easy and don't do anything you would regret should the cycle not work." I did my best in the 1-3 days after transfer to sit or lay down as much as I could, but I still have to lift DD all day long, play with her, wrestle her for diaper changes, etc.    So no strict rules here, with obviously no ill effects.    Good luck!

  • My et was on Thursday afternoon so G stayed at mil's overnight. Dh took care of her friday night but Saturday I literally had to chase her up a hill after she ran and opened a gate at a birthday party. Then sunday, we went to a baseball game and had to park far away and g insisted on me carrying her. It was almost a mile walk with a 30 pound kid. I was sure I didn't have a chance, but I guess it didn't matter. With that said, I still think it is a good idea to take it easy if possible. Good luck!

  • I remember asking the nurse about this....I did IVF again when DD1 was over 25 pounds.   As a SAHM, there was no way around lifting her into the crib, the high chair, into the car, etc.     The nurse told me I could take care of my child as normal, which I did, and continued to do when I was pregnant with twins!

  • I didn't have any restrictions either after transfer.

I did after my second c/s and that was harder since I didn't want DS1 to feel like now that his brother was around I was never going to pick him up and cuddle again

But the transfer was no biggie

  • P&J were 4 months old when I did my last round of IVF (which resulted in Brady) and I only took it easy the day of the transfer!

  • I posted about this when I had my ET.

Basically the boys were sick as dogs the week of my ET and there was NO WAY I could get away from two clingy sicky mucus balls.  The day of my ET, Alex got booted from DC for a fever of 103.  So the day after my ET, I had to stay home with two sick kids, walk them to the pedi, walk to the pharmacy, back home.  I was freaking exhausted.

So far, this rockstar seems to be sticking around... so maybe the whole bedrest thing is overblown?

  • I parked it on a couch for 3 days. DH took off work + part was the weekend. DS was almost 4, and I didn't lift him my whole pg. if he needed cuddles, I got on the couch or floor. I was more uptight about staying horizontal than after my 1st IVF (bfn)
