Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What is "normal"?

My three week old baby has been spitting up / throwing up more than normal lately. I understand that this is common in newborns for the most part, but in the past two days, she has thrown up the entire contents of her bottle three times, after feeding and burping.  It scares her (and me) and comes out of her nose.  I plan on calling the doctor again on Monday, but I was wondering if any of you could give me advice or tell me if it is still "normal."  My baby is formula fed.  Thank you!

Re: What is "normal"?

  • Definitely not normal. Your doctor will best be able to help you, so it's good you're calling.

Something similar was happening to DD and we were told it's reflux. She's formula fed also and I think she may actually have a milk allergy, but Zantac is helping the spitup, so we're waiting until her 4 month appointment to discuss things with her doctor again.

    Good luck!

  • My son did this too. We went to the doctor, and before prescribing anything, she had us try soy formula. It made a huge difference. He gained 13oz. in 3 days!! Unfortunately, for us anyway, it made him really constipated and we couldn't stay on it. We had to switch back to the sensitive formula and do Zantac. I would talk to your pedi, but I would try just switching to soy before you jump right to medication. It's worth a shot!
