Schedualing c section?

At what point did your doctor schedual you in for a c section? Baby A is breech and Baby B is transverse and has been for a few months now. I'm not sure when planning a c section is something the doctor and I should start seriously discussing.

Re: Schedualing c section?

  • I scheduled mine around 30 weeks in case they didn't flip.  I wanted it on the books early enough to guarantee that I was the first case of the day.

Well I delivered a week earlier (36 weeks instead of 37) from severe pre-eclampsia.  All well laid plans....

Some hospitals have limits as to how far ahead you can schedule c-sections and many are cracking down on delivering twins before 39 weeks unless medically indicated.

But always something good to discuss with your doctor now!

  • My MFM wouldn't schedule my c-section until I hit 34 weeks.  And I HAD to have one - vaginal birth was not an option with Anna's spina bifida.
  • i knew i was having a c/s from day 1 b/c i wanted one :)

but my hospital won't schedule until 2mo before 38w for twins (39 for singleton)... so at 36w I scheduled it.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • The plan was to schedule my c/s at my 36w appt for 38w for my breech/transverse twins. Due to a failed BPP and a few other factors, I delivered at 35w2d.
TTC#1 since Mar 2008. Serious MFI due to cancer. 3 cancelled IUI's, just about every test in the book. IVF#1 - BFP! Twin girls arrived 2/5/10 at 35w2d. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • My doctors said as soon as their January Schedule comes out I can schedule it. So i've just been waiting on that...Hoping by my next appointment (where i'll be a little over 30 weeks I can schedule it then.

  • They schuddled mine at 32 weeks for 3 weeks later. I am having mine on Tuesday at 35weeks 3 days. It was never a question on if would do one since I had one with my DS. No one expected me to make it to my schuddled date.

  • Mine was scheduled at 27 weeks. One baby is breech (I know that could change) and I had pelvis separation during delivery with my DS.

    J - 9/6/09 L and A - 1/17/12
  • I had PTL issues starting at 22w1d, so my peris and OB figured it was going to be decided by my body. However, once I got to an appt at 35w6d, my OB decided to put one on the books for 37w0d. My Baby A was breech, my Baby B transverse. My LOs had other ideas and came at 36w0d, though.
After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks. Lilypie Third Birthday tickers image

  • We scheduled it at my 34 week appt for 37w5d. Amelia had other plans and I wound up delivering on the morning of 37w2d.

  • We scheduled mine around 28 weeks for 36w2d (Peri was afraid of uterine rupture due to surgery I had right before getting pregnant). I did have to have an amnio the day before to check for lung maturity though.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • My doc didn't schedule mine until 35w.  She didn't think I'd make it that far and she didn't want to have to OR booked if I went early.  My babies were both head down, but 4 weeks of PIH forced delivery @ 36w.

  • I'm scheduled for a CS for the exact same reason. My OB scheduled it a while ago (for about 38 weeks). I don't remember exactly, but I'd guess it was about 29 weeks.

  • My LOs were breech/transverse breech the entire pregnancy, so I knew I'd have a c/s. When I went on hospital bedrest at 28w, I asked the dr to schedule my c/s so I'd have a goal date to work toward b/c I was told I'd be in the hospital until I delivered. So we scheduled it around 28w for 38w exactly. I delivered at 36w4d due to rising blood pressure.
  • This will be a repeat c/s (lucky #3) and my dr's office/hospital won't schedule more than 2 weeks in advance, so I'll be trying to schedule for 38 wks at my 36 wk appt.  We'll see how that works as I scheduled DD2's repeat c/s around 30 wks for 39 wks and she decided to be born at 33wks.

  • I asked my OB about it around 3 weeks ago and her nurse called me a couple of days later to schedule it. It's scheduled for 37w1d - my MFM likes for identical twins to be delivered at 37 weeks. I'm in the same situation as you - Baby A is breech and Baby B is transverse and they've both been in those positions for a few months. If they flip, we'll just cancel it, but this way I'm at least on the schedule.

  • We scheduled mine around 32 weeks for 37w1d. Both babies had been breech since about 28 weeks and I was leaning toward c-section even before then, but 32 weeks is when we scheduled it.

Are your babies mo/di? My perinatologist said that it is absolutely in everyone's best interest for mo/di ID twins to be born via C section due to TTTS risk. Even babies that show no sign of it can develop it during labor. That is partially why he told me ID twins shouldn't be born past 37 weeks. If they do indeed share a placenta I would DEFINITELY do the C section.

  • I plan on having an elective regardless. I told my doctor of my decision at 15 weeks. Not sure when they would schedule it but she said 38 weeks would be the latest I would have them if I hadn't already.
