Train set - table

I know this has been posted before but I can't seem to get the search function to work. Anyone have a train recommendation?

I saw this train as a "hot item" on toys r us.com and thinking about getting it: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11766021

Re: Train set - table

  • we're getting the activity table (low to being with) from Land of Nod - i like it because it grows up to be a full size desk.

it's more spendy than the TRU one, but it's by Crate and Barrel and it has a longer life, so it works better for us.

    HTH!

  • We got a similar table from Costco two years ago, but they have it every year.  I think the Costco price might be lower than TRU.  I think the one they sell in store this year has the lighter wood, but we have the darker espresso wood one and it's really a nice color.  The espresso is online for $170 and the lighter one is online for $120 (which is probably the in store price too).

Anyway, it's a great purchase!  We used it as a train table for about a year, and it's now become a Lego table where the kids build Lego structures on it.  The drawers are awesome for storing all the trains.  We use the tracks that came with the set, but the boys prefer the Thomas trains to the ones that came with it.

  • Check out the kidkraft ones. I know those are good. Zulily had some on their website, not sure if they are still there.
  • We are building our own because my dad's pastime is carpentry.  But if I was buying we would do this: https://www.traintablesonline.com/ You can buy them finished or unfinished and choose your wood.

I really dislike particle board and especially for kids products and since we are putting it in a very open part of our house I wanted something that looked like nice furniture.

We are getting the Melissa and Doug trainset for EJ, it fits Thomas and Brio trains and I am really into a solid wood set.

  • Lucas has the Thomas train table from TRU.  It is by far his favorite toy and he plays with it every day.
