Trying to Get Pregnant

Period is late but negative test

My period is about a week late and it has never really been late before... I took 2 pregnancy tests (on the same day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon) but they both said negative. I plan to call my doctor on Monday for an appointment but was just curious what could be going on?? It's driving me crazy!

  • You may have ovulated later than you usually do.

  • You probably just ovulated later than usual making your period late. Rule of thumb is that you don't need to see your doctor until you reach CD 60.
  • Ugh....Where's Slightly when you need her!? Who wants to start?????

  • First of all, this is no reason for a Dr's appointment.

It is likely that you ovulated late, which is why your period is late. Even if you are usually regular, it is totally common to have longer cycles from time to time.

I recommend charting so that you can learn more about what is going on with your body.  Without charting, you cannot know for certain when you ovulated, and when AF is "due".

    GL!

  • You could of ovulated later than you think, but you could be stressing about it too much. Stress can do some pretty crazy stuff to the body. Take a deep breathe and relax.

Stress can make you O late, but it won't make your LP longer.

  • I've been following my period, days I'm fertile, ovulating, etc. I don't mind going to the doctor because I can have a "checkup" twice a year and I normally only go once a year...plus just knowing what's going on would be nice lol

How do you "follow" these things? Do you chart your basal body temperature? That is the only way to confirm that you actually ovulated. If you aren't doing that, you're just guessing! Your cycle can change at any given moment!

We didn't say you minded. We said there is no need to waste your doctor's time or patients who really need to see them.

There is nothing to "know." We answered that question for you. I am also curious how you follow your cycle.

    lol

  • You don't always ovulate at the same time every month. Tracking your fertile days on a calendar is not the same as actually tacking ovulation. The only way to do that is to temp. If you're not temping there's no way to know when you ovulated. You could have ovulated late, or you still may not have even ovulated yet.
