I finally have a few minutes to sit down uninterrupted to share Baby C2's birth story. A quick recap: I ended up needing to have a repeat C-section (after wanting a VBAC) because C2 was breech. It ended up being a very positive experience and so much better than my first C-section. Before the surgery, my OB did a fantastic job of explaining every step in detail and talking with me about the anxiety I was feeling. She was so sweet and caring and took her time with me in pre-op before heading to the operating room. She had also recommended that I create a playlist of music that I wanted to be playing during the surgery to help soothe and calm me. What a great idea! It was awesome, and I specifically chose some songs that were special to me and DH to make it more personal for us. This time the anesthesia worked (yay for the spinal!), and I was awake when my baby boy was born. There were so many little things that the team did to make the experience positive: narrating what was going on, allowing DH to see them take the baby out, getting Baby C2 to us right away and letting us hold him for what seemed like such a long time, and having baby boy come to me in recovery as soon as I got there.
Would I have preferred a VBAC? Yes, but I am so thankful that the repeat C-section experience was so positive. My recovery was much easier this time around since I wasn't in labor for 30 hours prior (and hadn't been pushing for three of those). We are so blessed by our little boy, and Toddler C loves his little brother. A friend once described this period of time as an "intense time of parenting," and I won't lie. It is intense. But we are so thankful!
Re: Long overdue birth story
congrats and I'm so glad to hear your repeat c/s was so positive. My first c/s was similar to yours (long labor and pushing before c/s) so that gives me hope that recovery will be a bit easier the 2nd time.
And I like the "intense parenting" wording - that sounds about right
Sounds like it was a great experience!
