I am going back and forth on this... I really don't want a triple stroller, they seem very cumbersome and hard to manage. I really want to just get the double and be done with it. My DS will be 1yo when the twins arrive, he will still need a stroller. Do you think it would work to keep him in his single stroller and have the twins in the double when we go out? (I don't think there will be many times that I am out with the 3 of them on my own, and in the beginning if I am I can always wear one)
How old do you think DS would need to be to ride on the "running board" attachments that are available for some strollers?
Any advice would be helpful.... Thanks so much!
Re: Do I really need a triple stroller?
My twins aren't here yet, but I have been researching tons of options. Most buggy/rider attachments recommend that the child be at least 2.
If you decide to go with a triple model, the Valco TriMode twin has a joey seat attachment that you could put on the front for your son. Here's a link:

valco trimode is the way to go - stalk your local CL if the price is too high (I got mine for about 1/2 price on CL)... it's GREAT and will allow you to get out with all 3 alone, which is important to keep sanity, IMO.
a child shouldnt' be on a ride on board until about 3yo - so you'll need a stroller for your older child for a good 2 years - and teh valco is the best.
If you're leaning toward the double, my recommendation is to do that! DD will be 2 when they are born... My twins aren't here yet, so I probably shouldn't be giving advice, but the double stroller that we got seems SO HUGE that I can't imagine a triple stroller.
Also, the toddler seat for the valco seems really uncomfortable to me, and I don't think DD would sit in it. Another option is the Joovy caboose that has the extra rear seat for a toddler, but it doesn't seem that it can be used for the toddler if there are 2 carseats in the stroller, b/c the back seat has to recline. The other option is the peg perego triple, which is really expensive, and massive. I tried out a double peg perego at buy buy baby, and it had horrible steering.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of choices for a toddler plus 2 infants. I don't think DD will ride on a board right away, but we're going to make do w/ the double - I figure there probably won't be many instances that I'll be going out w/ all 3 kids anyway, and if I am, I can just wear 1 baby, and put the other baby and DD in the stroller. GL!
You will definitely want a way to contain all three.
The valco has been my savior. DD1 was 2yr2mo when her twin sisters were born, and the valco with joey is the way I take all 3 shopping by myself. I'm a SAHM so if I couldn't take them all out by myself I would have gone insane a long time ago. My older daughter is 3.5 now and she'll still sit in the joey seat - sometimes she'll fight it but once she's in there she's fine (she gets lots of attention when we're out!). And sometimes when we go out for walks, I want to really walk and not dawdle along at her speed so it's great for that too.
