I will be having my first child in June and am trying to come up with girl and boy names that I like. My SO and I both have unique names and love them, so we want our child to grow up with a somewhat unique name as well. The problem I am having is I don't want a made up name that sounds like we are trying to hard to be different. I also don't want the poor kid growing up and having to explain how to pronounce his/her name constantly.
For a boy I like: Sylas, Cyrus.... I am stuck on these. I am worried Sylas has/is becoming way to popular- what do you think??? I love Cyrus, but my SO says it rhymes with virus LOL!
For a girl: I am totally at a loss. I really love the sound of Finley but I am worried this is too trendy? I also like Sidney but this is out because I know way too many.
Re: WDYT of my boy/girl names? Anyone have unique name suggestions?
Silas is great! Sylas isn't. Plus, Silas is #222 on the SSA list, so not popular at all.
I like Cyrus too, nn Cy.
I'm not a fan of either of your girl names. Finley is quite trendy. Sidney is just eh.
What about Carys (Care-iss) or Seraphina?
My furchildren, Dorothy and Johnny
You could use the NN Fina.

I strongly dislike Silas (even more dislike sylas) and Cyrus.
Finley is a boys name.
My daughter's name is Finley. We love it, and it fits her very well. But lots of people hate when people use boy names as girl names. Even though IMO Finley is super girly and thats why I chose it. I love Silas, but spelled this way.
What about, Everly, Ellery, Avery, Emery, Hadley, Hattie. These have the same type of feel Finley does, but they are actually girl names
Sylas-No
Silas-LOVE
Cyrus-I agree with your hubby and also think Miley
some other boy/girl ideas I got from nymbler.com
boy-Major, Jasper, Harmon, Adrian, Solomon, Callum,
girl- Lena, Isadora, Olivia, Angelina, Anna, Amelia, Lydia
I love Evangeline and it will be on my short list if we conceive a girl. I would use Evie as a nn, but it also has the potential for many others such as Angie, Angel, Lily, Eve, Eva...
ETA: corrected spelling

I know a little girl Finley- that's where I got the idea. Her nn is Finny and it's fitting. I never saw it as a boys name, the -ley makes it sound girly to me. Thought it was cute, maybe just too trendy for my taste? I like the more androgynous girl names- my SO and I are a young adventurous couple- surfers, travelers, outdoorsy- she will most likely follow our footsteps and we aren't feeding into the "princess" thing that's for sure : )
I like Silas (no y), but Cyrus is NMS, Not a fan of either girl name at all. How about...
Avery or Quinn for a girl, Levi or Jude for a boy
Cole Joseph 7/05/07
Nora Anne 11/03/12
9lbs, 6oz
I don't get the whole thought that -ley/ly makes it feminine. Billy. Willy. Bradley. Bailey. Stanley. Wally. Wesley.
I also strongly dislike Finny as a nn for a girl. Almost as much as calling a girl Finn.
A great unique boy name that I love is Castiel (Cas-tee-el).
As for girls, that's a bit tougher. My DD is Kaelyn which is uncommon but not totally unique. One unique name we love is Aurora but that's actually been climbing the popularity charts and last I checked it was in the 40's!
But Good Luck! Names are the hardest thing to pick I think .
Castiel would be great if it didn't remind me of castil oil/soap : ( Girls names are so difficult! I liked aurora too, but sme problem with the popularity. I'm worried the boy name I like, Silas, will be in the top 100 too in no time also.... Anyway, I guess a little common is better then a totally unique horrible name like " ; )
Got cut off- ment to say a horrible name like "Bruklynn" ; )
Girls:
Moira, (of course) Briony, Neala, Tenley, Gemma
Boys:
Cormac, Frederick, Tate, Dante,
I like both Silas and Cyrus. Not a fan of Finley--it is quite trendy sounding to me.
If you like Aurora but are worried about popularity, how about Aurelia?
Other less common names I like--
Girl: Ariadne, Calla, Felicity, Juniper, Lenore, Ophelia, Zelda
Boy: Arlo, Apollo, Atticus, Dexter, Jasper, Lorenzo, Orion, Quentin, Rocco, Thaddeus
