Can Urgent Care handle Peds?

DD is still running a high fever and the doc said if she was still running a fever today that she probably had some sort of infection that needed to be treated.  And she has really disgusting green boogers, but that's her only other symptom.  Of course, the doctor's office is closed today.  If I take her to urgent care, can they treat pediatric patients?  Or am I wasting my time?

Re: Can Urgent Care handle Peds?

  • I would think that they should be able to, but maybe call ahead to check. Good luck!

  • Call first. When I was in the DC area, I had to go to 5 different urgent care places before one would see my (then) under 2 y/o. All I wanted was for them to check for an ear infection, but we couldn't get past the front desk.

  • ARC is one of the only urgent cares that has a pediatrician

Just learned that from a doctor friend. Doesn't  mean u can't go to other urgent cares but just FYI. Avery ranch saw dd at 16 months

  • We've taken DD to a couple of urgent cares (some out of atx area when we travel) and with each experience DD requires testing or something that they don't have the resources for and we end  up at her pedi the next Monday or the ER if it is truly urgent.

That beign said, I'd still take your DC if its a fever and green boogers- its a start and hopefully your last stop.
