Hi ladies I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving!
We are currently TTA due to not having insurance. My boss told me after our loss that our company was being bought by a bigger company and we would be offered really great insurance in August. So I waited and asked her about it in August and she said they will come talk to us about it in September. Then it changed to November, then December and now we won't get it until March. I really don't want to wait til March to TTC so we are trying to look for other options. My DH asked his work about adding me, but there is no open enrollment and we missed our chance when we got married. So I have been looking online and am having a really hard time finding insurance that covers materity.
I was wondering if you ladies could tell me who you are insured through and maybe point me in the right direction.
TIA
Re: Insurance ?
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and its amazing. pre, during, and post m/c they have covered everything, and I would only have ended up paying $1400 total for my OB, $1000 of which is my premium, and have never had a copay.
All of my blood work, and I've had a lot of it, ultrasounds, and shots have been 100% covered...I have it through work though. I have no idea how much an independant plan costs.
ETA: I looked at some insurance online earlier this year before I got my job...I do know that higher premium ='s lower monthly cost, so it just depends on what you want to pay when.

I looked into Blue cross blue shield in my state and they don't have a plan that covers materity. I have been to a million websites and can't find anything. I decided I'll call my Dr. on Monday and see if they can help point me in the direction of someone who covers materity and if not if they would set up a billing plan. I know that will cost an arm and a leg but we are willing to do what we can. I am also worried about waiting til March and then finding out my works insurance won't cover materity since it will be bcbs.
Also wanted to add that I have been reading alot of your post Jenn and I can completely relate to having to TTA until further notice. I think at least having an idea of when you can TTC would make it at least a little easier, but I hope neither one of us will have to wait too much longer
Thanks for the support

If you lost your insurance due to job changes, etc. you should be able to go on your H's insurance and bypass the open enrollment period. I would have your H approach his HR department again and explain the situation in detail if he hadn't done so before. This is what happened with my insurance after I left my job. I negotiated with my job to keep paying my premiums for 2 months after I left, then H added me onto his because I was without benefits at that time due to employment changes. I would think it would be the same for you. In that situation, the open enrollment didn't apply; using open enrollment would be for if you just preferred your H's benefits over your own and wanted to switch for no particular reason.
Maybe his insurance is different though, but it's worth looking into further. Good luck!

I don't have any advice for you, either, but I can't believe your DH's company doesn't offer an open enrollment period or allow you to enroll due to the fact that your employer stopped carrying coverage for the time being. What a crappy company. Would they allow you to enroll your future children?
I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of this and it's holding up your TTC. *hugs*

I've used this site to find insurance before I got a job that offerred it; once you put in your info you can go to "additional coverages" on the side and sort by ones that offer maternity - hope this helps!

I hadn't thought to tell his company that I lost my insurance so I called him and he said that is what he told them in the first place and they still said it wasn't an option. He said when we have a child it will open and he can add me and a baby.
Thank you for that website I have been on it and did the little chat box and they said that materity is not offered in my state. So I called that number and asked about materity in my area hoping the chat guy was just stupid. Unfortunitly he wasn't. The guy on the phone said it isn't offered in my state or half the country. I asked what people do if they want to have a baby and he said get medicaid. We make too much for medicaid so he said well then your only option is to pay out of pocket.
It is so frustrating because I wanted to do the right thing and get married then have a baby (I can't think of a single person I know irl that has gotten married before having a baby) but now I feel like I am getting screwed more this way. If I weren't married I would qualify for medicaid although I never wanted to use the government but it seems to be the only option. I am sorry that I am being so whiny but I just want to cry now.
I am talking to my boss right now to find out if the insurance through the company will cover materity and we will just go from there I guess.

I hate insurance companies. I don't know if it's much help, but I don't have insurance through my job, so I get it on my own. I go through Kaiser and I'm really happy with them (as long as you don't fall behind in the payments). For me, I pay $30 co-pay, $3500 deductible, and $10 prescriptions.
The only thing I can suggest is that there are waiting periods as was mentioned, so yeah better make sure you check on that before getting KU.
Good luck! It's such a pain having to deal with ins. companies, health or otherwise. I firmly believe they are the devil (sorry to anyone who works for one!)
