When did LO get onto a schedule/routine?

Today was the first day my LO had a routine of doing three hours between each feeding. He was finally predictable and would wake to eat, be awake for a bit, and then I would get him back to sleep when he started to get fussy. I dont remember when DS 1 started on a routine.. thanks!!

Re: When did LO get onto a schedule/routine?

  • My LO does that now but I don't consider it a routine. Because every time I THINK she is predictable, she proves me wrong and stays up between feedings or gets hungry an hour later vs 3 hours.

  • DD has gone to bed/woke up at about that same time since 9 weeks. But a day time routine still hasn't happened. She'll get on a routine for a couple days, then the next day is totally off again. She has been more consistent with nap time and almost always goes 3 hours between feedings but other than that she's all over the place.

  • Just in the last couple weeks she started having a schedule - but she created it (not me), I just follow her cues.

  • Not sure if I would call it a routine but there definitely is a pattern to his day.  I took a suggestion from my MIL and filled out a bar graph with the times he was asleep, awake, eating and fussy.  After a week, I noticed a definite pattern and am now trying to narrow down what makes him fussy.  You might want to try jotting down the times he generally does things and you'll probably see a pattern.

  • Around 5 weeks C started going down for a four hour stretch of sleep sometime between 7 and midnight. She's now continuing that and her feedings are usually around 1 am and 5 am, with her getting up for the day around 8:30. This pattern really only emerged in the last week and naps are still anyone's guess.

  • Mine is 6 weeks tomorrow. Hes consistent too THESE days. We do an 11-12 ish bottle then hes up around 4 then up for the day around 7:30-8:30, I have read on this sight that sometimes they wake up just for diaper change and may be rocked back to sleep. If they dont calm down then obviously they are hungry.

Last night he woke up around 12 I was getting his bottle ready and he passed out on my shoulder. I still fed and he drank most of the bottle. Thoughts on trying to rock back to sleep after a diaper change? He does wake up consitently in between the 4:00 and 8:30 bottle and all we do is change his diaper and rock back to sleep. Should we try that in the middle of the night?
