Trouble TTC

my intro...

Hello ladies,

I'm a TTGP gal and have recently been lurking over here more and more, so I'm here to introduce myself.  DH and I stated TTC 9/10 and after over a year of trying and charting with normal cycles, we decided to start getting some tests done.

SA:  Normal

HSG: Normal

All lab work CD3 & 7DPO: great!

That being said, we went to se an actual RE today so get more of a work-up completed.  After my initial exam and ultrasound, the RE said that I have PCOS like symptoms, and will be treated with metaformin.  I find this to be kind of crazy, as I get regular periods, and don't fit the description he painted for me, but you can't fight city hall and It's his job to get me pregnant so I will be starting metformin once my lab work clears after thanksgiving.  I spent 2.5 hours there and for the first time, I didn't feel like a crazy person.  Sorry this introduction is so long.  Thumbs up to you if you made it through this!

  • .........wait, he said you have PCOS "like symptoms"...?? how did he come to that? was it the string of pearls in the ultrasound? high testosterone in the b/w? history? Just be careful.....get a second opinion if you maybe want to...no sense in going on meds if you dont definitively need them....if you think its weird investigate more! I hope you dont have PCOS :( it sucks...I am the typical PCOSer but not overweight or IR, I am a "slim" PCOSer.............

  • I was shocked when my RE handed me my PCOS dx too.  I ovulate on my own and have relatively regular cycles, and had normal blood work.  My RE said I was mild, but I do has slightly cystic ovaries, am a little overweight, late ovulation and had a short LP.

With the combo of Met and clomid I'm now Oing on cd14, as opposed to cd22.  My LP is now 14 days, up from 8 days.   Good luck and I hope your stay here is short and sweet.

Thank you so much for this comment.  I do have regular cycles (27-31 days) I O on my owe (with an occasional annov. cycle), and all of my blood work  has come back normal.  My brother has diabetes, my sister has PCOS, but by the grace of God, I've never been diagnosed with anything wrong besides my thyroid disorder.  My father's parents were insulin shooting diabetics and I found that out by talking to my mom after my appointment (my dad left when I was an infant) so I never had a clue until this afternoon.  I guess based on my family history, I could be insulin resistant.

The thing that scares me, is that I'm a huge gym rat.  I do weigh about 10 lbs. over what I should weigh for my height, but I'm pretty solid and most of that is muscle.  I work out 4-6 days a week and do not fit the "overweight" part of PCOS that was explained to me.  I've been on Clomid now for 2 cycles, and usually ovulate between CD15-CD19.  I'm hoping that this Metaformin is what it takes!

The fact that my father was a type 2 diabetic also pushed her to putting me on Met.  My A1c levels look good, but she's treating me as insulin resistant.  She has a theory that my years of taking Neurontin and Tegretol for my RSD triggered the PCOS.  The meds trashed my metabolism and even with 4 days a week at the gym, I can't lose the 20 pounds it made me pack on.

Well cr@p! That's my login for my local nest board I've had since my knot days.  Apparently my iPad doesn't like 2 logins.
