I had a Skip Hop Via backpack that I got when DDs were about a year old. I used it until a squirrel chewed through a strap (long story). I replaced it with a regular backpack I ordered from Land's End. I wanted on with two main compartments (one for diaper stuff, one for food) and then space for two sippy cups on the outside. I think this is the one I wound up with.

We use this JJ Cole one. I really like that it has totally separate compartments for diapers/wipes and food/clothes/toys. It's pretty compact, so it doesn't hold a ton, but I like the smaller size and that it keeps me from hauling the kitchen sink (really, how many toy cars do we need for a short trip?!). Some reviews complain about zipper issues, but we're on our second one (we accidentally ruined our first-- no fault of the bag!), and we've never had any trouble with the zippers.

I switched from my PPB backpack as well. It was just too bulky. I am using a Columbia one I got at BRU. I originally bought it for DH to use but now I am using it. I like having a backpack still.

We have a Rick Steves backpack from our honeymoon in Italy years ago. It's really lightweight and basic, washable, nothing fancy. Or I throw DS1's snack cup and extra Pull-ups and wipes into my big purse.
