Christmas Tree Decor Poll (for Stever)

To liven up the board, how do you decorate your Christmas/holiday/hannukah/whatever tree if you have one?  A certain theme be it color or idea?  Hodgepodge?  What's your style?

Re: Christmas Tree Decor Poll (for Stever)

  • My must have is white lights. Other than that: I guess a hodge-podge? I've accumulated so many ornaments from my mom getting rid of hers, lol. Some of my favorites were bought in dollar stores.

Let's just say our tree isn't white lights, monochromatic balls, and silver garland. There's a mix going on. If it were completely up to me, I'd have a Disney-themed tree.

I don't even know where to put our tree this year. LO has a lot of equipment, lol.

  • Hodge podge.

    And thank you :)

  • Oh, and it's hodge podge because I am completely lacking in style and tend to get what I think is pretty as opposed to what might look good with what I already have.
  • Hodge Podge.  My mom buys decorations for us (my sisters and I) each year and none of it goes together, so total hodge podge.

Yes! Me too! When I do buy ornaments it's always "oh I love this, it's so pretty," and not that it necessarily matches what I have. Somehow in my world, snowmen dressed like hockey players, ballerinas, M&M's dressed as Star Wars characters, Peanuts characters, and Tinker Bell all go together beautifully.

My mom used to decorate her tree with a lot of Hallmark celebrity ornaments. Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, etc. She stopped when one of my sisters referred to the Christmas tree as the Tree of Death.

  • We have one tree with clear lights and lots of fancy ornaments in gold, silver, pastels, a few red and green.  The other tree is multi-color lights with all of the other hodge podge.  Hodge podge in our house = Peanuts, Sesame Street, all of the Rudolph characters, ornaments from everywhere we have travelled, Winnie the Pooh, Disney, lots of Baby's First, wedding, new house, etc......Neither tree has an empty branch.

See, now THAT would be an awesome tree!  Your mom should embrace her Celebrity Death Tree... she could have the 2011 Amy Winehouse ornament this year!

  • Oh.. .and totally hodge podge here, too.   A whole bunch of crap collected since I was a kid.

But I just realized... I bought a tall, skinny tree last year after the holidays to put in our front entryway.  Crap.. what am I gonna do with that one?   I guess I can put all of our silver ornaments on it.

  • I'll answer my own poll -- hodge podge.  We have a bunch of ornaments we each received as kids, some I picked up that I liked, and ornaments I have picked up from my travels which is such a nice way to remember my trips every year.  Like the spun glass pineapple from Charleston and sewed thistle ornament from Scotland.  We are giving the kids an ornament each year too and the kids get one from my great aunt and MIL too.

  • Total hodge podge here. We have a giant 7 1/2 ft artificial (can't have real or I'll be stuffed up for a month), white lights, a red and white chenille tree skirt that looks like Santa's jacket (the cat adores it), and tons of red, white and silver ornaments, with loads of other ornaments going back to when we were kids, including a few we made in school. We even kept the ones they put on the holiday liquor bottles just to fill up the tree!
  • Hodge-podge.  We do a small tree (like 3 feet) so that we can put it somewhere that DD1 can't reach it.
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.

    bwahahahahah...
  • NO tree here...

our holiday tradition is to get the heck out of dodge.  Every year at Christmas we used to joke about "leaving town next year" just because it's always been stressful and hectic to juggle families, meals, presents, etc.  So last year we just did it.  I booked a house on the Oregon coast and we drive 5.5 hours to get there, hang out for 5 days (including Christmas) and then head home again once the dust has settled.

It was so rediculously calm and wonderful last year that we're doing it again this year.  On Christmas day last year we took the teens and the dog and went walking on the beach for hours.  We skipped rocks, looked for shells, had seaweed fights (it was cold but bearable!).  It was the best gift I've ever given my kids.  They check with me every week almost to make sure we are going.

  • Colored lights and a mix of different ornaments I've collected over the past 3 years. The general color scheme is red, green and gold. I would like to switch it up but it's too expensive to buy all new ornaments in different color schemes. That will have to wait.

  • We'll be doing only the second tree in the 5 years I've lived here (the first one my cat stealthily took down in the middle of the night about 2 days after it was put up).  Probably just throwing things...I'm not sure what decorations even survived this long.  I really want to have one up for Stella's first Christmas.
