Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here in about 3 years. This was my home board before I got pregnant. I apologize for posting but I could use your help.
We're TTC #2 and I'm supposed to give myself a trigger shot on Friday. I'm freaking out not because of the pain but of doing it wrong and screwing up ovulation. My nurse told me to pinch the skin and insert the needle horizontally BUT everything I've been reading says to insert the needle likes this. So which is it? What were you told to do?
Re: Freaking out about giving myself trigger! (ticker warning)
My trigger shot has always been in my back side. I was worried about DH doing it wrong also but the nurse convinced me that you really can't do it wrong. I would do it the way your nurse told you to do it.
BTW: Welcome back! Sorry you have to be back here.

Definitely not thin, lol.
What I mean when I say horizontally is inserting the needle from the side, does that make sense? Like in the same direction as your stomach. Ugh, I'm so confused. I'm kicking myself for not clarifying with the nurse.
TTC#2=July 2011: Surprise BFP: Chemical Pregnancy
What medication is it? Most triggers (that I've heard of anyway) are sub-Q. Here's a link to training videos for injections if you're interested: https://www.freedommedteach.com/player/Videos.aspx
Hope that helps!
That's what I thought. Thank you for your help, girls! (I guess I could confirm I did it correct by POAS a few days later and seeing that it's positive, right?)

This is how I did mine last week. It looked just like the link you posted. I pinched though, and I think that's why I got a nasty looking bruise. It doesn't hurt, just looks awful. Good luck!

If it's an Ovidrel trigger then it's one of those syringes that comes pre-filled in the box, correct? That's what my Ovidrel shot was. Do it just like that picture you posted shows. Pinch and insert at the 90 degree angle, dispense the meds, wait a few seconds, and then pull it out. It's honestly not bad. It doesn't hurt and it barely stings (much less than my Follistim shots do). The needle makes it look worse than it really is.
Now if it's some sort of IM shot, then that's one you'll have to have someone do for you. That one's needle doesn't hurt, but the meds do a little bit.
GL girl! Just remember: Mind over matter! You'll do fine!
