this is an area that i probably could have gotten away with spending 0, but how can i risk shopping for a little girl. gah! i was calculating this now and think i've spent about $250 for her first year's clothes, most of which was spent in paris. i think i went way overboard, especially considering that i have so many hand-me-downs. i guess my justification is that i'm trying to decrease the PINK!
Re: how much have you spent on baby clothes?
I bought him one onesie, one Christmas PJ, and one Halloween shirt (for next year, it was $2 on clearance at Pennys!) for a grand total of about $25 dollars.
I am lucky to have gotten a lot of hand-me-downs from my nephew who was born 2 winters ago, and we got lots at the shower too.
Holy cow... I wish we would have gotten some hand-me-downs, or even gifts would be nice.
We've spent probably $500-700 already on clothing ranging from 0-9 months. One outfit that is 12-18 months. We've literally bought everything though...
ETA: I should note though that I have a serious obsession with babyGAP.. so half of what we spent was probably GAP clothes.
I am probably close to this range. I tried to be practical, but it is very hard when there is such cute stuff out there for little girls. PLUS I needed to go back and buy more after she was born because she was less than six pounds so none of what I originally bought fit!
Harper Jane 11/19/11 5lb 15 oz 20 inches... perfection
We spent $60 in total for a couple of cute outfits in our personal tastes and a few sleepers...everything else came from the baby showers and we got a bunch of hand me downs through 3t size from my boss
she likes the same clothing I do so it worked out great.
With SD we probably spent $150 every time she had a growth spurt!
I spent $200 at a consignment sale, and am set for the first year.
It feels like a ton of money, much more than I spent with DD. But we're not doing a shower and I doubt that we'll get as many gifts as we did with a 1st baby.

and after 82 days in the NICU, our little girl is home!
Lots... more than $250, I think (but that's for stuff up to 12 months). We were Team Green for the longest time, so no one gave us clothing at the shower. Also, all our family lives far away (2000 + miles) and as I'm the first born of a first born of a first born... there were no hand-me-down baby clothing left in the family.
With family very far away, it's unlikely anyone will just drop off clothing as gifts after the baby is born, either.
I don't mind spending -- we are purposely trying to only get organic and have shopped the sales on Zulily. We budgeted for it way in advance and are still under-budget for baby items.

I NEVER buy clothing more than 1 season ahead. For example, I bought a bunch of summer items on clearance for the following spring/summer for my daughter, and she grew 2 SIZES so she never got to wear them. I love end-of-season sales and the savings, but we ended up losing a lot of money by me buying them so far in-advance.
I buy most of my kids clothing on ebay. I pay the same price for Nike, Gymboree, Ralph Lauren, etc that most people pay at Target.
I have 6 newborn outfits (mostly sleepers) and 6 0-3M outfits (mostly sleepers) that I got on ebay for a total of $35 and all are in great condition!

I did the same thing. We skipped over the preemie size, though, and went straight to Newborn. I still have to roll her sleeves up in the newborn stuff to make it fit, so I think she'll be in it for a while. I am worried that the clothes I purchased before she was born won't fit her during the appropriate seasons now since she's pretty tiny.
We have some hand-me-downs from my older daughters, but both of them were summer babies born in warm states (CA & TX), so we really needed all new stuff.
With that said, I bought everything we have at thrift stores and have about 25 outfits for the first 3ish months I think. Each outfit was less than $3 at the thrift stores, a lot of them $0.99 so I'd guess we are under $50 total on clothes.. I'll buy more later once we see what we need. That's actually all I've bought for her this whole pregnancy. It's nice not needing anything!
Super jealous of some of you!
DH and I are the only ones that know what we're having. This being said we're the only ones buying clothes for him.
If I had to estimate I'd probably say we've spent about $200-$300. I haven't gone real crazy like I could have. This includes some clothes I've gambled on for summer and next fall (clearance). I sell things on ebay so I figured if it doesn't work out size wise I can sell them. I've left tags on quite a few things too so if we get an abundance of baby clothes as gifts when he's here we can return.
I've never even attempted to add up what I've spent on clothes. I can guarantee is is a LOT more than most of you have apparently spent! I try to shop sales when I can and have done well in that aspect, but I have easily spent a few hundred dollars. I have quite a bit for NB-12mo so there's a range, but I don't have a lot of self-control when it comes to baby clothes.
But, I allowed myself to splurge on clothes because we didn't have to buy any of the furniture or any of our gear except for the stroller. Our families and friends were very generous for our shower.
LCT - 5.15.14 ~ 9lbs, 22.5 inches
Nothing so far. I'm having two showers next week and figure I'll go shopping after then to fill in the gaps. We've already got some clothes and I'm not sure just what we'll need yet or how big our baby will be! DH was 9.5 lb and 2 weeks early, I was closer to 6 lb, so it's hard to tell how long this LO will be wearing NB sizes. I'd rather wait and go shopping once he's here than buy lots that won't fit.
Every time I have the urge to buy something I remind myself that there will always be sales on baby clothes, but I am ready to start shopping!
Umm like $100 (onesies and socks - I still need to get sleepers) I have a ridiculous amount of girls clothes between DD1 and my niece, but both were summer babies so for the most part we'll be layering as much as possible.
Oh and another $60 on a dress, sweater, tights and shoes that match DD1's Christmas dress. (lol I forgot about that)
