Ki n dle Question

My Grandma is losing her vision but has a friend with a K in dle she has borrowed and can apparently read it when the text is enlarged. So...we want to buy her one for Christmas. She needs the cheapest one available as I really don't know how long she will be able to use it. I read the specs on the $79 one and it says it has wi-fi.

Question, is that the only way to download books or can you connect it to a computer via USB? My Grandma doesn't have wi-fi at home.
