Frequent feeding then won't eat?

My twins started wanting to eat around every 1.5 hours two nights ago. I assumed they were going through a growth spurt. Last night, A kept up the same pattern but R didn't really want to eat. He was still waking to eat and acting hungry, but when I would feed him he would only eat for 5-10 minutes. This morning he wouldn't eat at all from the breast but we finally got him to take 2oz of breastmilk from a bottle. He also started spitting up last night. A frequently spits up a little but R has never spit up. Last night and this morning he spit up a good amount. He is still having wet diapers, just not as frequently as normal and he has only pooped once since midnight (usually it's with every wet diaper (with every feeding)). This morning he also sounded really congested but seems better with that now. Any insight? I'm so nervous about them getting sick. We have a weight check at the pedi this afternoon anyway so I will definitely be asking them, but I was just looking for some comfort so I don't go crazy this morning!

  • I'm really no help, just wanted to say hang in there and try to relax.  You can try suctioning his nose if he sounds too congested, or even try nasal saline spray.  My girls had a drastic decrease in poop activity around 6 weeks, they use to poop multiple times a day, and literally one day it stopped and now they only poop every 3 days or so.  Don't be too alarmed with the decrease in poop if they are breastfed.  But relax and keep them on a routine as best as you can and talk to the doc about it later.  :)

  • That sounds like reflux. Some babies will try to eat to relieve the pain and then cry when it hurts and the cycle continues.  Eating poorly could also be a sign of a cold, especially if he is congested.  Good luck - I hope it's nothing serious!

  • Thanks! They looked good at the doctor and the congestion seems to be gone. The doctor thinks the congestion was from the spitting up.
