Poll Turkeyday Style

I am on my iPhone so hopefully this won't all run together. Do you make the meal for Tday? What's your favorite dish? Are you trying any new recipes this year? Whats your favorite tradition? Do you Black Friday shop? If so where? Bonus : what are you most thankful for this year?

Re: Poll Turkeyday Style

  • No. I usually don't make Thanksgiving dinner--although last year, I did make the turkey! I'm actually planning to do my "Thanksgiving" meal for Christmas eve--with about 14 people!

My favorite dish has to be my apple-sausage stuffing. It's just so tasty!

This year, I have been asked to bring three things to Thanksgiving at my in-laws--a quick bread for breakfast, pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce. I'm trying a new cranberry sauce recipe and a new pumpkin pie recipe (actually  getting ready to make the sauce and the pie crust this morning, so I can make the filling and bake the crust when I get home, so we can leave for the in-laws' at 10 pm tonight!)

Fave tradition: That's a hard one. Thanksgiving has been changing a lot in the last few years. This is actually the first one I've done at DH's parents' house. When it's my family's year, we go to my grandma's in Ojai, but for DH's family's year, we've gone to Victorville and San Diego, but never at home. So...not sure.

I DO NOT Black Friday shop

This year, I am most thankful for a healthy pregnancy.

  • Do you make the meal for Tday? Nope, my mom hardly eve lets us bring anything.  She does most of it herself which, apparently, is just how she likes it.  ;)

What's your favorite dish? The turkey!!!  I never get tired of T-day leftovers!  At least I never have yet.

Are you trying any new recipes this year? Nope, just making the same old cranberry sauce.

Whats your favorite tradition? Eating til I pass out.  ;)

Do you Black Friday shop? If so where? I have before but these days it would take some powerful motivation to get me out so early when I know I'd have to go home and entertain a 4 year-old afterwards.  I'll check the sales ads, though, and see if there's anything worthwhile.

Bonus : what are you most thankful for this year? My boys, without a doubt.  I have the best husband and best son in the world and no one can tell me otherwise.  They fill my life with so much joy and make me laugh like no one else can.  <3  <3

  • Do you make the meal for Tday? Nope. We usually contribute a dish. I do help my mom with make-up Tday on Saturday.

What's your favorite dish? My mom's stuffing

Are you trying any new recipes this year? No

Whats your favorite tradition? Deep frying the turkey. Yum! Watching football as well, especially because the 49ers are playing on Tday this year!

Do you Black Friday shop? If so where? Hell no! I like my sleep too much (although it has been non-existent lately).

  • Do you make the meal for Tday? I did last year but not cooking anything this year. Although S has announced he wants to eat Tday dinner here and wants cornish game hens so I guess we're doing Tday version 2 either Friday or over the weekend.

What's your favorite dish? Hands down stuffing followed by sides of brussel sprouts and rutabagas.

Are you trying any new recipes this year? Not feeling adventurous enough ;)

What's your favorite tradition? We didn't really do any traditions other than my mom woke up at 5-6am and started cooking. She'd have on the Macy's parade and take breaks in between making dishes. We always ate early and pretty much vegged out until bedtime.

Do you Black Friday shop? I haven't no...kinda scared to, but then kinda intrigued.

Bonus: What are you most thankful for this year? I am thankful for a year of some positive changes. It took us a very, very, very long time to get here and it's still a work in progress but I feel like things are moving in the very right direction. :)

  • Do you make the meal for Tday? Nope. Our Moms still take charge...my Mom will let me help prep, but that's about it. His Mom, nada.

What's your favorite dish? At my family, cardoni. At DH's, still trying to figure that out. ;)

Are you trying any new recipes this year? Cute new boots and a new coat, but no recipes!

What's your favorite tradition? Football!!!!! And scanning the Black Friday ads. I'm starting a new tradition this year by working out Thursday morning.

Do you Black Friday shop? I have for the last 4 or 5 years. I don't wait in line (although my parents usually do), but I'll head out early and see if I can hit any sales, knocking out a few more gifts on the list.

Bonus: What are you most thankful for this year? A healthy family.

    Whats your favorite tradition? n/a

Do you Black Friday shop? If so where? Yes but this year I work turkey night so I may drop by gymbo the next day if I'm not too zombieish

Bonus : what are you most thankful for this year? The health, safety and happiness of my family. After a whirlwind of a year I don't think I've ever been so thankful. I think I took our health for granted and this year showed me one moment can change everything.

  • Do you make the meal for Tday?

Yep, I'm cooking.  Turkey, cranberry/orange sauce, brown butter brussels sprouts with roasted chestnuts, carrots, stuffing with cranberries and walnuts, mashed potatoes, red cabbage and apples, and blue hubbard pie with cinnamon and orange zest.

    What's your favorite dish?

I just tasted the toothpick from the pie. I'm thinking that might be my favorite.

Are you trying any new recipes this year?

I free-styled the pie this year.  We had a hubbard squash in the garden.  Everything else is tried and true.

    Whats your favorite tradition?

Getting together with my family.  We're doing something new this year with a handprint tree, and having people write what they are thankful for around their handprint.  We'll see how that goes.

Do you Black Friday shop? Not intentionally. I really try to avoid it most of the time.

Bonus : what are you most thankful for this year?

Having my MIL come stay with us through the holiday season.
