ISO advice from successful baby wearers

I really hope to be able to wear DS#2 a lot and don't really see how I'm going to function as a SAHM with 2 unless I can. I tried with DS#1 but it never really took. What is the best product for when they are youngest? I have a conventional sling, mei tei, and a Bobo carrier (and a bjorn). Is a Moby the best way to go before they are really sitting up? I could never get DS in my sling and the only one he really spent any time in was the bjorn. When he was older he didn't want to be in the mei tei or bobo.

TIA!

Re: ISO advice from successful baby wearers

  • I LOVE the mobs for when they are itty bitty. Once they hit 15-16 pounds, I switch to the ergo or babyhawk. My DH has always preferred the bjorn, and the kids seem to like the forward facing carry of it, too.

Eta: moby, not mobs. But iPad is being wonky and won't let me fix it.

    Dear Bump: You suck.

  • It's hard to say what carrier is best because a lot of it depends on personal preference, body type, or your willingness to deal with a learning curve.

I love the Becoming Mamas babywearing guide  here: https://www.becomingmamas.com/babywearing/

If you're interested in trying other carriers in person you could come to one of the Austin Babywearer's meetups.  Either look us up on Yahoo or email me at my username at gmail.com for more info.

  • I was in a similar situation after #1 (ds1 didn't care for the sling i had and i used the bjorn). but w/#2 i was more determined to make it work. I used a pouch sling w #2 made by a local mom/business and she helped me fit it just right. she even came over 2x to help me get it just right. i used that for 3-4 months w/him and then moved to the Ergo.

w/#3, the pouch was immediately uncomfortable and I wanted free use of both arms. i also had to wear him all day for ~3 months. The Moby was a lifesaver. I highly recommend seeking out help to get the learning curve down on how to fit, put it on. about 3 people helped me w/it until i got it right, (one friend thru the s. austin babywearers. and perhaps i am sling/wrap challenged :)).

my main advice is seek help! it is worth it!! I gave up way too soon w/#1. :) good luck!!  (oh, i also switched to the Ergo after 3-4 mos w/#3 too!!)

  • With #2 the Moby was a life saver.  Now that E is 4 months old I have mostly been using the Ergo.  I definitely wear her way more than I did C.

I can't believe she is already 4 months old.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

  • A, i had the same issue with max so I was worried about wearing jake but so far he's done great. I wear him a ton, at home and always when we go somewhere.  I got the k'tan and looooove it. Very similar to the moby but you don't have to tie it. You're welcome to come over and check it out if you want!
