I was so worried today. About 2 pm I started having some contractions. Not too strong but they stayed consistent for about 2 hours. So I called the doctor. She wasn't too worried because they stopped but said that if they come back I will need to get checked out right away. She also said to drink a lot of fluids and rest as much as possible. Has anyone else had any experiences with this?
My two prior pregnancies I didn't have any real contractions until 37 weeks, which is why I am so concerned at 24 weeks. I know I am not really high risk yet but it could easily come if I have any more contractions.
Re: Contractions at 24 weeks
I don't understand? So how are you high risk then? Or are you just posting here to get advice?
I had contractions at 22 weeks sent me into the hospital. I stayed in for 3 days was on meds but still ended up having my baby too soon.
Well, contractions are normal to have of course and that doesn't mean they're pre-term.
I had pre-term contractions at 26 weeks that put me on bed rest for a week. It looks like things are a-okay today, so here's what I suggest:
- If you have more than four contractions in an hour, give the doc a call. If they're irregular, though, they shouldn't be a worry.
- A contraction for me felt like a mix between a bad period cramp and a gas pain, except that it would be strong for a few secs to longer and then go away completely.
- When you do feel contractions, drink lots of fluids, and lay on your side or for me it was best to lay back with my butt propped and my knees above my pelvis.
I never dilated, but was contracting at 2 to 5 minutes for 3 days and ended up in labor and delivery with a 2.4 cm cervix. Now my cervix is 3.1 range, no more contractions! It's resting my pelvis in my case I think that has done the trick, so to be on the safe side, just don't overexert yourself. I think for me the baby is just big and always head down, and so that sort of pressure mixed with physical activity isn't good for me.also I was crampier than most women throughout the beginning of pregnancy, and looking back I wonder if it has to do with my "irritable uterus," as they say.
Basically if I start to feel achy/cramppy (not contractions) that just tells me to slow down, so I think when contractions are happening due to a strained uterus, the goal is just to prevent it from getting out of control. Trust me, you don't want to end up in L&D with magnesium pumped into you for 24 hours, haha. : )
