I thought this would be fun. If you've picked a name for the sex of your baby, you have the names narrowed down for when you do find out, or you're team green and have your final choices, what inspired your baby name(s)? Was it a name you heard somewhere, a family name, etc.?
How did you come across your baby name?
Re: What was your name inspiration?
We finally decided on Jillian for our girl!
I heard Jillian about three or four years ago on The Bachelor. A contestant who later became the next bachelorette was named Jillian and she was so cute! A pretty lady with a great personality. Just an all-around nice person. I thought then, hmm, Jillian is pretty and would be cute to call a little girl Jill as a NN. Ever since then I've had positive feelings associated with the name so naturally it was on our list and became THE ONE when DH basically hated my other choices.
Boy name: Asher Lowell. Asher after my grandfather Albert and Lowell after my grandma Lola.
Girl name (maybe): Lillian Brooke. Lillian after grandma Lola and Brooke after grandfather Albert's Hebrew (and given) name Benjamin. Hebrew name will be Leah Bracha - Leah after my grandma and Bracha b/c it means blessing ... and this baby truly is a blessing.
We had about half a dozen names that we talked about. It wasn't bad and we came to our decisions very quickly. I said "Lilliana", DH said "Lillian" and I said "OK!" Lillian is also his Godmother's name and the MN is Virigina, after my grandmother who I loved dearly and passed away about 5.5 years ago. I was her first grandchild and only grand-daughter for a long time and we had an awesome relationship.
If it was a boy we would have named him Gabriel, just a name we both liked. MN would have been Felipe, after DH.
H only liked 3 girl names: Anna, Hannah, and Joanna. We have a very common last name, and I was worried Anna might be too common a first name to pair with it. Hannah is the name of BIL's ex-wife. So we were left with Joanna. It honestly wasn't my favorite name, but it's grown on me.
Scott is my grandmother's maiden name, and she goes by Scott or Scottie b/c she hates her first name.
We have a girl's name picked out- I'm hesitant to put it on here, since I don't want any name critics, but I've never heard of it before it's Qaliyanna, it sounds perfectly good in french and will work in english. Although we probably would do Qaliyanne instead of ending with -anna.
A woman I know her daughter adopted a little gril from Nunavut (sp?) and named her and since I've seen it I've kind of fallen in love with the name.
For DS, we knew we wanted William as a middle name after my dad. Our original choices for first names were John or Joseph and we were going back and forth between those. Then one day when I was about 24 weeks along, we went to lunch and a place called Grande Jake's. DH got all thoughtful and said, "You know, I really like the name Jake." I liked it too and it stuck. So DS is technically named after a Mexican restaurant!
For this LO, we wanted to use either Kathryn or Jane for a middle name (My MIL's names) I had made a list of about 15 names that I liked. DH hated them all. So after going back to the drawing board, I suggested Caitlin. DH liked the name, but not the spelling. We wrote down all the ways we could think of to spell it and DH picked Katelyn.
One of my cats is Chloe!
We haven't even gotten close to picking names yet. The front runner/one of the only names we both like if it's a girl is Laurel. I'd say the inspiration for that one comes from the laurels that the ancient Greek would adorn themselves with after winning stuff.
I love Laurel and Lauren for a girl, so pretty!
Mallory Lou
The Mallory comes from the show "Family Ties" and I love the name you dont hear it often and it not a crazy name either.
The Lou was both of my grandmothers middle name, they both were very special women, they were classy ladies, very strong and independent women and strong in their Christain faith. I want my daughter to posses those qualitys!
Our little boy's name will be Carter Perry. Carter is a name DH and I just liked and Perry is a family name from my husbands side.
I think our names just came from looking at a baby names book. DH and I don't agree on names at all. Dylan was one of the only ones we agreed on. Eli was the other so that will be LO's name if it's a boy. The MNs are my grandpas. Edward is my mom's dad and George (to go with Eli) is my dad's dad.
We are completely lost on girl's names. I like Lyla and I got that from Friday Night Lights. All the other suggestions are coming from baby name sites, a baby name app, or baby name book. I'm fairly certain that this baby (if a girl) will not have a name until the very last minute.
We are Team Green...and our name choices begin with G too!
Our girl's name choice was a no brainer. I've always wanted to name a baby girl after my maternal grandmother. Her name was Genevieve, but would like to call her Eve for short. My middle name along with my dad's sister and mother is Naomi so it definitely gets passed to a little girl. She will be Genevieve Naomi. Just with my Mom Mom was here to meet her namesake if it's a girl.
Our boys name was difficult to choose. DH wanted Jake because that's his nickname...not Jacob. I like Jacob, but it's becoming too common. We went back and forth. When we were sitting in the OB's office one appointment, there were baby pictures on the wall. One of the little boy's names was Gavin. It just stuck in our heads. I don't really here of a lot of Gavin's. The middle name will be after my dad, Kenneth. No one knows the middle name yet. We are keeping it a surprise in case it's a boy and everyone will know after that. My dad will be so touched. I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about it. Gavin Kenneth sounds so cute!
Since it is a girl, we are naming her in memory of my mom who passed away 2 years ago. My mom hated her name (Marti) and swore she would haunt me if I ever named my child that, so after fighting my family and explaining that to them, they let me choose another. We've picked Melody for her name. My mom was a huge music fan and sadly lost her hearing very late in life. Our baby girl will be the Melody reintroduced into life after a loss for everyone.
Her middle name will possibly be Soleil which is the national flower of Iceland where DH is from. It means 'sun island.'
Typing this I just had a stroke of inspiration and am going to discuss with hubby the middle name L?a, which is a bird that is symbolic of the bringer of spring in Iceland. We want to honor his heritage. I happened to think of the bird as I was typing and it made me tear up so now its going to have to be on the table!
