On/off fever for 7 days...

LO has had a fever at least once a night and sometimes randomly throughout the day since last Wednesday.  We went to the doctor today for the second time this week (first time Sunday after hours). 

He has no other symptoms along with the fever.  He is teething, but both doctors I saw said that teething + fevers is a myth.

They tried to get a urine sample by using a catheter today (I am forever traumatized) but they couldn't get the sample because he had apparently just peed.  He was thinking it could be a kidney infection.  They also did a strep test which was negative.

Doc said that he thinks this is too long for him to have a fever for just a random virus.

Now I am officially freaking out. 

WHAT IS IT?

    Hmmm.  Ruby had a fever for almost as long (5 days instead of 7), and it ended up being roseola.  It was the same thing - down during the day and came back at night.  She was also tested for a UTI and strep, and both were negative.  Did they mention roseola to you?  If he suddenly has a rash and the fever is gone, that's it.  Basically the rash means that the fever has run its course.

    Thanks.  He didn't mention it, but I asked about that along with hand foot mouth as we were on our way out, and he said he didn't think it was either of those because the fever had been going on too long...

    I guess the thing that worries me the most is that the doctor said it was concerning to him.
