I had my weekly appt yesterday and I am 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced. My doctor also told me I am at a -2 station. I have read many post about dilation and effacing but haven't seen any posts about labor station. Has anyone else's doctors told them what staion you are at??
Re: Dilation, effacing,... Labor station??
I was -2 and not dilated at all at 35 weeks. I won't be checked again until 38 weeks unless I end up in labour.

Will baby #3 be another girl?

At my appointment yesterday, LO's head is still floating as they say, even though I am 4cm and 80% effaced. This is our 2nd baby though, and my midwife said it's very common for 2nd babies to not drop until labor starts.
Being at -2 station though is good; it just means that baby is nice and engaged!
Yes I am at 0 station, 60% effaced, and 2 cm dilated (normal for second time Moms).
Yesterday my midwife said that my effacement meant I wasn't quite ready for baby yet, but when I mentioned I had a feeling I'd have a fast birth she said "well your last labor you were at -2 station the day you went into labor, and you are already at a 0 now, so it will probably go faster this time"
This is because the baby has a little less far to travel down when it starts coming out.
This is covered in this birth video I have (Sheri Bayles laugh & learn about childbirth). I rec it to everyone over the hospital class, b/c its much more informative.
-4 is still floating. 0 is really when they say baby is "engaged". +4 is when the baby is crowning and that is a very short station because once the head out the babys body comes out very easily.
Most second/third times moms babies float till the end. First time moms usually "drop" a couple weeks before having their babies (at the latest).
