I can't believe how much trouble I am having finding a nanny. We've now had two excellent (on paper) candidates -- tons of great references and experience, hours/pay worked for them, *seemed* reliable, etc.
One I even completed a phone interview with. Then, she cancelled (by text) an hour before we were supposed to meet. I gave her the benefit of the doubt (ONE time) and rescheduled. I confirmed the rescheduled date via text and e-mail, and she responded that she would be there. Then she didn't show. No text, e-mail, phone call, etc. I even texted her to see if she was ok. That was two weeks ago -- no response.
Then we just had another that again, sounded fantastic and had great references, recently had a background check, is CPR certified, etc. She cancelled early Saturday morning because of a death in the family (understandable), but said that she would be back in town Monday and could meet Monday or Tuesday. Didn't respond to my e-mail about meeting Tuesday, and didn't return DH's call.
I'm at a loss!
Re: What is with these NANNIES???
I had the same issue... when I used Craigslist. At least on Care.com, I did have that issue only once and I told the site and they removed her. We are on our 2nd nanny now and she's been with us for 19 months and I pray she will be for another couple years.
Finding a nanny is seriously one of the most frustration processes I've ever experienced. A close second to infertility! Lol
We're having a hard time too. I've met a few people from the websites but have found professionalism lacking as well. I've met some through the agencies and really like them but am daunted by the agency fee a bit. I think we'll probably end up hiring through the agency just because of professionalism. We're just coming off of a bad experience so I really want to get it right.
We had one woman come over and go through all of our cabinets and refrigerator to see the kids stuff...she then opened my dishwasher and asked 'are these dirty?" I mean it's crazy how hard it is.
Brutal!
I got a recommendation for a baby-sitter..I talked to her about it...she gave me her resume. I emailed her to set up a time for her to meet the kids and DH. She never got back to me. I see her all the time because she is one of the helpers at Reed's preschool and she is great while she's there. I talked to her about it, and she told me she isn't baby-sitting anymore because she got a second job.
Um, it takes 2 seconds to email me and tell me that?!?!?!
Exactly! This is my problem. Specifically with these two, they don't ever have to see me or even talk to me on the phone -- they could send me a text or email and be done with it.
We're using both craigslist and sittercity, both which we've had success with in the past. Especially since it's only part-time, I just can't justify the expense of a service. But, I guess if you don't use a service, this is what you get.
