Hi everyone! I usually post over on the TTGP and Military Families board. A quick background on me, DH and I have been TTC for 14 months and I just recently had my first appointment with an RE and my husband's SA results just came back yesterday. My RE did an internal ultrasound and everything looks good, plenty of follicles. He put an order in for an HCG dye test which I have chosen to wait until after the holidays and the start of the new year to get it done. We are going on vacation Friday and we just want a month free of stress, temping, etc. DH's results came back normal for morphology, count, etc. However he does have low motility...reading the report that came back from his doctor was a little confusing for me so I have posted some of the results below:
Semen Volume 4.0 (1.5-5.0 is normal range)
PH Semen 8.0 (7.0-8.3 is normal range)
Motile Slow 18 (0-15 is normal range)%
Non-Motile 47 (0-5 is normal range)%
Motile Active 35 (85-100 is normal range)
The ladies over on TTGP suggested that I post over here for some more information. I think I might pickup some preseed to use this next cycle and see what happens. I figure it couldn't hurt since his "guys" need some help to get where they need to go. I'm staying optimistic and looking forward to diving into all of the testing and such after the first of the year. TIA!
Re: New here!
Welcome to the board! I must say, I've never seen motility listed out that way. Normally, it's just a percent motile. 50% is normal. So with your "motile active" plus "motive slow" you are actually over 50%. Which would not be MFI. But if they are only counting the "active" ones, then you're a little low. But with that much volume (4.0) his overall number of total motile sperm should still be high!! I've always seen normal listed as 1.5-3ml as normal listed on my DH's sperm anaylsis. So I'm a bit surprised to see 1.5-5 you listed as normal.
You can figure out his total motile sperm by taking his count, times his "active" percent, times his morph. If you're over half a million (strict Krueger morph) or above 1.5 ,il(old morph standards) then you're fine.
That said, if you've been trying for over a year you're in the right place. No matter if you are MFI or not. But since I'm MFI I thought I'd give you that insight. Good luck with the rest of your tests and moving forward with treatment!!

Welcome!
If everything else is in the normal range (viscosity, agglutination, etc), then that's great! That appears to be very mild MFI at worst. If that's the only issue between you two, I wouldn't expect you to be on this board long. If there's at least 30 million motile sperm, then you're in very good shape.
That is a weird way to present motility, but it seems like they may have combined the forward progression with the motility scores... their normal percentages seem a little crazy though unless they're post-wash percentages.
As long as everything else checks out, I would expect an RE to recommend IUI. You should have great odds!
Good luck!
