Pronouncing Tala

I posted a list of Native Names yesterday after speaking with DH we picked Tala

we like the meaning "wolf" (i also saw in the Hindu culture it's also a goddess of the stars)

Just curious how everyone would pronounce it..

We were thinking Tah-la

Re: Pronouncing Tala

  • Just from looking at it, I'd say Tah-la, like Nala from The Lion King with a T.

ETA: I'm from New England and with our goofy regional accent, the word tall sounds like tawl.  From the way you plan on saying the name, it comes out Tawl-uh, which coincidentally is how we'd say the word "taller"  LoL

  • When I read it first, I read it as "Tay-la".  Maybe putting an H in there would help with pronouncing?  Or maybe I'm just the weird one! lol

  • Tah-la, no h needed to make it easier. You may have to explain it to people the 1st time but they'll get it.

I'm about 40 minutes south of you in CT and I pronounce the R in taller. Funny how just a few miles can make a difference!

Anyway, I'd pronouce Tala exactly as you would, like Nala with a T. It's not something I'd use, but I do like it.

It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of ANNABEL LEE; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image BFP: 9/24/11 EDD: 6/5/12 Natural MC: 11/6/11

Tala is beautiful IMO, and I love the meaning!

ETA: Am dying to know what middle name it will be paired with. :)
