Trouble TTC

*Ladies who have done IUI!!*

I want to know EVERYTHING. This will be our first round. I am cycle day 3, I start Clomid today and then Follistim, with an Ovidrel trigger. None of the meds are new, just the IUI.

Does it hurt like the HSG?

How long did it take?

Thanks lovelies :)

  • Takes 2 minutes and totally pain free! It shouldn't hurt at all like an HSG. Good luck!

  • My first one was no pain at all. My second one he had issues getting the catheter in and I had some cramping when it hit the back of my ute but nothing too bad. FWIW, the one that hurt got me a cp and the pain free one got me nothing ;) Ha. It takes just a few mins.

  • My first was completely pain free but this last one was uncomfortable.  Nothing like the HSG though.  My entire abdomen was already really sore because my ovaries were almost the size of baseballs.  It just hurt for a few seconds and the entire procedure took maybe 2 minutes.

After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!

This!! I did the same type of cycle, minus the follitism (which im not sure what that is? ) - the HSG wasn't bad (i psyched myself out for that) - and because the clomid made my ovaries larger i guess i was just feeling crampy (kind of like i was ovulating) but the procedure didn't make that any worse - it takes literally 2 seconds (the speculum was the worst part) but really not bad at all! i just tried to think positive thoughts and it was a piece of cake :) Good Luck!!

  • My HSG was painless....my first IUI was terrible--but don't be scared, my ob/gyn did my first one, and he had trouble getting the catheter in, and after about, oh 2 minutes, he grabbed a tenaculum (claw thing) and gave my cervix a yank--ouch!!  My RE did my last IUI, and it was just a little pinch and done.  I have had cramping after both IUI's.  Oh, and my RE said he's NEVER used a tenaculum on IUI, so I don't think that's common.

     Good luck!

  • My two IUIs hurt only a little (nothing like the HSG) and like everyone said - they are very quick.  They just put the cath in, then push through the sperm, then have you lay there for a little while.  Several (but not all) will give you a sheet with your H's S/A of original sample and post wash info which I look to have.  Some do a U/S while doing it, but mine don't.  Everyone is a little different, but for the most part it's all the same: insert cath, insert sperm, done!

  • I had my first one on Saturday. I went in they did an u/s to check follies, then felt just like a normal yearly exam, didnt even feel the cathiter, literally took 1 min then laid there for 20..no pain no spotting no cramping..good luck!

  • I don't want to be a Debbie downer, but you asked so I will tell! I have had 4 IUI's and they were all painful, not bad, but like a 5-6 on the pain scale. Just FYI!

  • I'm on my third and none of them have hurt like the HSG, just the normal uncomfortable feeling like when you're getting a Pap done.  It is so quick!  Today my appt was at 11:45 and I was in my car to go home by 12:05.  The IUI part is just as quick as a Pap, but then my RE makes me lay there for another 5 mins.

    Good luck!!

  • You will most likely have cramping after the procedure and through out your 2WW. And the only tip I have is "Don't test early" if you are getting the trigger. I have been tricked twice :(
