Cold Sore

I need to get rid of this fvcking thing, like NOW. We are visiting family wed-thurs and have family coming friday-sunday. I don't have time for this crap.

I woke up this morning to tingle lip, now its super swollen. I bought lycane, I've been icing my lip and have been rubbing tea tree oil on it.

Any other tips or tricks? I know it probably won't be gone by tomorrow evening. But I'd like to lessen it. Right now I'm thinking of just telling DH's family he hits me. lol.

Re: Cold Sore

  • Ask your doctor for some Valtrex...

  • Will it kick it out ASAP?
  • Weird, but I swear it works: myrrh. As in "gold, frankincense, and". It's nasty stuff, but if you dab a little right onto it, it can really help. I get ulcers in my mouth and throat and that's my go-to remedy.

  • The only thing that works for me is the prescription stuff.  There is an oral and a topical medicine.  Even with the medicine, though, it usually takes at least a week to clear up.  Sorry!

    Where can I find this?

Also I called my OB office and requested a script for valtrex be called in

Hmmmm, I don't know if I know where one is around me. Oh well. Sounds like I'm stuck with it. I just wish it didn't hurt so bad. I'm going to ice it again

  • I had one a few weeks ago...my doc called in Valtrex for me and that seemed to shorten the duration. I also held Q-tips with rubbing alcohol on it several times a day to help dry it out - who knows if that actually helped it, but it may have.

  • I wonder if prep-h would help? doesn't it stop blood flow to an area, I would think that would help a lot.....off to google

(lurking from feb)  The only thing that's going to make it go away is rx of valtrex or zovirax. It's the herpes virus so you need a rx antiviral drug. Leave it alone until it scabs over. All the other stuff is going to bother it more and it then can get infected with bacteria. My son has been dealing with this since he was 2. When he was younger and would mess with the sores before they scabbed over he ended up with staph bacteria in them. He now takes valtrex on a daily basis to prevent them.

    ...lurking...

Rubbing alcohol for 30 mins at a time with a q-tip and icing until the ice melts always works.
