Re: Daycare provider pierces 5 y/o ears

  • I would totally flip out!  If the daycare provider thought it was ok to do that without asking the parents, who knows what else she has thought is ok to do.  That is just messed up.

  • I am not even comfortable clipping nails, like if there is a long one and LO scratches themselves! I can't imagine piercing ears! Yikes!

When I was little my grandma (paternal) cut my hair when my dad had me for a weekend, my mom FLIPPED!

  • Sry the original post was so screwy. Anyway here is the complete story. I'd be livid as well.

  • But...but...but...the 5 year old said it was OK.

My ears have been pierced since I was in high school and if I take my earings out for more than an hour or so they start to close up and hurt like heck to get an earring through.  I can't imagine how much it hurt that little girl...besides being unsanitary using someone else's earings.

This was my thought too!  A 5 year old would say it's ok to drink chocolate milk and eat cake for every meal too but that doesn't mean you do it!

  • my concern would be health related after the fact. The parents have no idea how clean the stuff was that was used.  Does she have a license to do this? The child now is at risk for hepatitis and other things.

Yes, i have my ears pierced three times, yes I have a tatoo....but i had to wait until i was 13 for the first ear piercing and 21 for everything else.  i would not want my kid at a place where a 5 year old gets to make the decisions!

  • WOW!  This story amazes me and several levels.  Not only that the one teacher who pierced her ears thought it was OK, even after confronted by the parents.  But that no other teacher noticed she had done it and called her out on it.  I mean, do daycare center teachers really not notice that a child came in without pierced ears then they are suddenly wearing hoops in the middle of the day?  Or did the other teachers think it was OK as well?  And the statement from the center suggests that the girl's ears were already pierced, I had to read another article on it to be figure out which claim was true, but it sounds like the center isn't really taking responsibility for what happened under their care.  I also cannot believe that the center didn't fire the staff member for having such poor judgement, nor that there was nothing illegal about a someone who is intentionally breaking the skin of a 5 yr old  without parental consent.

  • I'm shocked. I can't believe a daycare provider would do that. I HAVE a 5 year old and I would be so livid. Thankfully, my daughter knows better than that.. she would never let someone do that to her. Just... ugh.

  • Wow, that is awful!  And even more amazing to me is they have another mom on their quoted saying oh, jeeze that really isn't  a big deal compared to other awful things that happens in this world.  Seriously?!?  I mean, I would have thought that the 14% of people that voted that the teacher should not have been fired would HAVE to be teenagers or something, or at least people with no kids.  I would be persuing legal action as well, mainly because that is dangerous and unsanitary.
