Does anyone have a link or a quick synopsis of vaginal delivery of twins?

I had pretty easy deliveries with both my boys so the doctor said that unless at least one twin isn't head down she would be fine with a vaginal delivery.  I know it can be different with twins, so I would love to read some birth stories if anyone has one handy that you'd be willing to share!

  • I think you'll be just fine as long as baby A is head-down, especially since you've delivered vaginally before. One thing about delivering twins vaginally is that they aren't going to be as big as a singleton (most likely) so they come out a little quicker. My birth story is long, but if you want to kill some time its right here.

Thanks, your story is super!  My singleton deliveries were pretty speedy so this will be a wild ride for sure!  I appreciate the link.

I was lucky in that all my kids were always head-down.  My labors and delivery were pretty quick and easy.  My doctor had me deliver the twins in the OR just in case anything went wrong with baby B.  And it is a lot more work than delivering a singleton because after you get done with one you have to push all over again.  Good luck...as you get closer to delivery you will know if it's possible.

    WOW that's amazing!!   You're such a trooper.

I'm really hoping to be able to deliver vaginally -- both babies are head up right now, so I'm hoping they flip.

that is the post i wrote after my boys were born. it is the only labor and delivery i have had, so i don't have anything to compare it to, but it was very easy and uncomplicated.

    good luck!

  • I had a scheduled induction at 37w6d. After about 8 hrs of Pitocin and an amniotomy halfway through, I was ready to push. Three hours (ugh!) later, Baby A came out. That's when the OB discovered the B had flipped to breech yet again, so he did a breech extraction. I had switched practices at 31w b/c I wanted an OB who was comfortable and familiar with breech extractions if necessary and I was really glad I did. He was wonderful!

  • I delivered vaginally at 32w3d.  They were both head down and stayed head down.  It was my first (and only) delivery.  DS came out first, did a quick ultrasound to make sure DD didn't flip, then they broke DD's water and had to push on my uterus/stomach to get her to move down.  DD was born 17 min later.  I pushed for less than 20 min total.  Good luck!

  • I delivered my twins vaginally at 30w5d after baby A's water broke in the middle of the night.  Both babies were head down.  I wasn't in labor for very long as my contractions worsened quickly, and I was 10cm after about 1.5 hours.  I didn't have an epidural (I wanted one) but the doctors thought I might deliver baby A and let baby B stay inside for awhile.  After baby A came out (about 4 pushes), they were worried that baby B might have an infection and decided to break her water.  16 minutes later and 4 more pushes, she was out.  Honestly, it was much easier (not that it was easy at all) than I ever anticipated.  I was so worried that baby B would need a c-section.  I did have a second degree tear, but since I didn't have an epidural, I was able to go to the bathroom all by myself about 45 minutes after the delivery.  Good luck to you!

  • I had a great labour and delivery with my twins. I wrote up the story on my blog: https://2moms2dogs2babies.blogspot.com/2011/06/introducing.html

  • I would definitely do it over again!  It's long, but have a read if you have time here. :)
  • I just realized I never replied again to this!  I really appreciated all of the stories and read every single one of them.  I'm glad to have a couple of labors behind me already, this is definitely a little less daunting with that in mind.

(Note to self: Don't read birth stories while pregnant and at work any more :)
